Dustin and I met freshman year of high school in Ms. Jackson's physical science class. We went through most of high school passing each other by in the halls, but it was not until senior year that we started to learn more about each other. He became my football dictionary senior year, but really that was just an excuse to talk to him. I did not care about what a first down was. Anyways...Despite us both being terrible at bowling, we had our first unofficial date at Creole Lanes and I was shocked at how much I could be myself around him.
February 26, 2017 we spent the day at the Airbase rehearsing lines for a play that I was in and then ended up on the swings at the Twin Span. This is where Dustin asked me to be his girlfriend.
A few months later, we graduated high school and I was headed off to college...4 hours away at Northwestern State University. We did long distance for 6 years. You heard that right 6 years. 4 years being 4 hours away and 2 1/2 years being 6 hours away and for 6 months living 6-8 hours away in two different states from each other.
Long distance sucked, but knowing that we both saw a future together and wanted to make our relationship work, we made it!
During my last rotation for OT school I was living in Memphis. Dustin came up to visit me and we went to the Botanical Gardens. There we decided to take a picture (well...video!) under this beautiful building that overlooked part of the garden. Following this, I began to walk away to hear the words Alexis... As I turned, Dustin got on one knee and asked me to marry him! Literally the best day!
Now we are living in Denham Springs, LA and have two fur babies Vader and Nola. We are so excited for this new chapter of our lives and to soon celebrate with all of our family and friends.
