Alexis and Ethan met in the fall of 2020 at a soccer game where a mutual friend introduced them. Ethan had just moved into a Young Life house, as a senior in high school as Alexis started to come around. Due to COVID, most of her grade hung out off campus, specifically in the house at which Ethan lived called Toolbox. Because she was there almost every day, their friendship formed quickly. Over the course of the next few months, their friendship continued to grow as they spent a significant amount of time together including late-night McDonald's runs, guitar hero competitions, and debating if Friends or The Office was the better show. In June of 2021, Ethan left for basic training in Georgia and their friendship was put on hold. While he was there, the same friend that introduced them told Alexis the news that Ethan has had a crush on her for quite some time. Alexis took matters into her own hands and texted him the same day, checking in to see how he was doing and letting him know she was excited for him to get back. He got back in mid-December and shortly after they caught up over lunch. On January 1st, 2022 he asked her on an official date, which took place January 15th. Over the course of the next three months, they went on a number of dates and spent more time together. At last, on March 26th, after Toolbox date night, he asked her to be his girlfriend. Alexis was leaving to Intern at Rockbridge, a Young Life camp in Lexington Virginia, in early May so they prepared to do long distance all summer. A month in, Ethan joined to be a part of Summer Staff for 3 weeks but was asked to stay as an Intern because one was leaving. Long distance did not last long and, thankfully, they got to work side by side the rest of the summer. During the next two years, they went on countless dates, their favorites were when they went shooting, took family trips, spent holidays together, celebrated new jobs, and worked at Rockbridge some weekends together.
Ethan also got close to the family Alexis babysat for, the Haltermans, and occasionally joined her while watching their two boys. That turned into dinners with the family, even when Alexis was not there, and Alexis living in their guest house after college. Finally, on May 29th, 2024 Ethan invited Alexis to get dinner at a nice restaurant. First, they must stop at the Haltermans to pick up a gift card. As they pulled up Ethan had to answer a call from his dad, so Alexis went to the house, assuming Ethan would follow when the call was over. When she got to the door, the boys handed her a card with her name written on the front, which in the end was not a gift card. It was a card from Ethan that directed her to the garden where he proposed and she said YES! It was the best day of their lives and Alexis has been reliving it ever since.
