Love at First Sight

Picture of Love at First Sight

David & Alexis met on August 15, 2018 during Brooks Residential Colleges social Dr. Pepper Hour. Alexis, working as a Community Leader (A.K.A. - an RA at Baylor University), was rounding the room during an ice-breaker activity to introduce herself to incoming freshmen and meet her potential residents.

A fellow CL called out to find a partner with the same birth month and it was then that David and Alexis locked eyes from across the room and have been inseparable ever since.

From sharing a birth month, to sharing jokes behind the front desk, to sharing deep thoughts under the stars - David and Alexis are now committing to sharing a life together.

They are so excited to celebrate this wonderful milestone with their closest friends and family!

David’s (uncut) Version

My recollection of August 15th 2018:

Prologue: I have heard the grumblings of my fellow comrades that have asked to see the raw, uncut, brave, and divine story of how Alexis and I crossed paths. The woman that God has given me (Gen: 3:12) has eyes and ears everywhere. Yet I will not be silenced on my eloquent telling of this story. LET FREEDOM RING my brothers and sisters in Christ.

My mom and brother had just finished moving me into my room in the early afternoon. Brooks (the doorm I lived at) was hosting a Dr Pepper hour social event. A ghastly invitation to receive on the first day in a new place as an introvert. I begrudgingly attended to break out of my introverted cozy shell. Little did I know this decision would have a far greater impact than I realized.

The hosts of the event, the CLs (Community Leaders/RAs) of Brooks asked questions to the freshmen along the lines of “find someone with the same major, live on the same floor, etc…” So one of the questions was find someone that has the same birth month as you. I shout and walk around the room yelling December!!! December! December! And yet it fell on deaf ears or so I thought.

I go to throw away an empty cup that I had to pick up another Dr. Pepper float as one does in bulking season. Immediately as I raise my eyes I see the most gorgeous person that I have ever laid eyes on. She had kind eyes that were portals into her soul and a smile that said I care about you. My frozen heart became flesh again in that moment. I knew that she was created in the imago Dei (the image of God). Handcrafted by God down to every detail. The rest of her body was… (redacted)…. I guess God loves cake…. (Redacted…)

It felt as though time stopped and somehow without even knowing my legs were walking towards her. She spoke first and I was ready to hang onto every word that came from her lips but instead of something profound or something that would make my heart flutter she says “You look like a December baby!” My brain short circuited not because I was impressed but because it was an abysmal first sentence after I romanticized her in my mind. I only really remember my response back “I am”.

But I left leaving the conversation wanting to know more about her and I knew that she felt the same way. How you may ask? Well I won’t reveal my secrets, but who wouldn’t be attracted to a (redacted…) Let’s just say I closed the deal.

Epilogue: I hope my version of the story finds you well. I pray that it gets into your hands in its full glory. The boss may redact certain elements if she gets her hands on it. Pray that if she does she will have grace and mercy. Blessings,
Your brother in Christ W.D.K

Present: All bits and jokes aside we couldn’t be more grateful for our relationship. God has blessed us beyond belief, that doesn’t mean that there weren’t challenges, trials, or low points but we were able to have our eyes fixed on Christ. So when we inevitably fall short we will respond with grace and mercy to each other. This is a forgotten element in our society. I am extremely thankful to have such an amazing fiancée and soon wife. She’s the best and I am grateful God gave me such an awesome woman of God.
