Erik and Alexs became friends in the fall of 2012 in Pittsburgh, PA. Even though they shared several mutual friends, and had met previously, it took Michigan State loosing to Norte Dame for their friendship to truly begin. While attending an MSU Alumni Association game watch, Erik and Alexs started a conversation (because anything was better than watching the game!). Over the next several months, Erik and Alexs developed a wonderful friendship. Erik was always up for an adventure and Alexs was excited to have someone to explore Pittsburgh with. Even after Erik took a new job and moved to Ohio in February of 2013, their friendship continued. As the summer approached, Erik asked Alexs to attend his sister Kirstin's wedding with him. However, there was a problem. Alexs had purchased tickets to see Taylor Swift in Pittsburgh on the same day. Anyone who knows Alexs knows she is a huge Taylor Swift fan, but she chose to give away the tickets anyway and attended the wedding with Erik.Since then, Erik and Alexs have experienced the reality of living hundreds of miles apart. Alexs continued to pursue her career with General Mills, moving to Minnesota and then to Tennessee. Erik stayed in Ohio for nearly three years before starting a new endeavor with State Farm Insurance. They spent hundreds of hours on Skype, bought dozens of plane tickets and drove countless hours. Over that time, their adventures have continued including a trip to Isle Royal during Erik's 30th Birthday, two vacations in beautiful Puerto Vallerta Mexico, an exciting trip to Key West Florida, a week in Las Vegas/Grand Canyon and a getaway to beautiful Kauai; as well as weekend trips to Miami, Minneapolis, Chicago, San Antonio, Nashville and Indianapolis.They have also enjoyed sharing their mutual love for Michigan State with several football games each fall and a trip to the Final Four and Big Ten Championship. In May of 2016, Erik and Alexs's lives took a dramatic turn. Alexs was offered a position with General Mills - IN MICHIGAN. The couple began making plans to start the next chapter of their relationship - together - in their home state. On July 5th they closed on their very first house, nearly three years after their long distance relationship began. They have embraced life in Michigan with MSU season football tickets and home improvement projects, all while connecting with old friends and enjoying living in the same place.

Friday Night Welcome Party

Midland Brewing Company - Beer Garden

We would like to invite all of our wedding guests to join us Friday night, June 23rd, for craft beer and appetizers starting at 5 PM. The Midland Brewing Company will have a section of their new beer garden reserved. This is a family friendly event and will be extremely casual. Ceremony Details

Parking at the ceremony location will be limited. Please carpool if possible. We will have people on hand to provide directions when you arrive. After parking, you may need to walk up to 1/4 of a mile to the ceremony, some of it on grass. Please wear appropriate footwear! Thank you in advance for your patients and understanding!

Special Touches

Our Wedding Date

Erik and Alexs booked their wedding date in February of 2016. There were minimal summer Saturday dates still available at their favorite venue so they went with June 24th, 2017. A few months later, on 6/24/2016, Facebook Memories told the couple that the MSU Alumni Tailgate, where they met for the very first time, was on June 24th 2012! Their wedding is on the 5th anniversary of that tailgate. #aww

The Cake Topper

While at the reception, be sure to check out the topper of the wedding cake. Erik made it himself out of stained glass, with the close supervision and assistance from Doug Blizzard, a very close friend of Alexs's family. It is truly a one of a kind! Alexs and Erik are planning on turning it into a Christmas ornament after the wedding so it can be treasured forever.

Bernie Nelson - Wedding Ceremony Performance

Bernie was a classmate of Alexs's mom in middle and high school. In the 80's, Bernie moved to Nashville, TN to pursue a career in country music. While Alexs was living in Tennessee, she had a chance to connect with Bernie and they had a great night on the town. A few months later, Alexs was listening to Bernie's latest album "Blue" and heard a song that immediately brought tears to her eyes. When she asked Bernie if he would perform during the wedding ceremony, he said it would be his honor. Alexs and Erik are so excited to have Bernie part of their day!

Stargazer Lillie's & Alexs's Bouquet 

Alexs's favorite flower has always been Stargazer Lillie's. When Erik picked her up for their first official date, he brought her a beautiful steam of Stargazers, not knowing that they were Alexs's favorite.For the wedding, Alexs's bouquet will be featuring Stargazer Lillie's. To make it even more special, Alexs's mom is working with the florist to supply the Lillie's, as well as other steams, from her own gardens.

Matthew Sutika - Our BFF & Minister

Last year, Alexs and Erik asked Matt if he would be willing to be the one to officiate their wedding. Matt and Erik were college roommates at Michigan State, and stayed close after graduation. Alexs and Matt have also developed a wonderful friendship over the past few years, which made him an obvious choice for the job. Alexs and Erik are confident that Matt is going to do a fantastic job! (No pressure Matt!)

Sundance Ridge - The Ceremony Location

The ceremony will be taking place at the house Alexs grew up in. Her parents purchased the property in 1993. It was nothing more than a wooded lot with a meadow and some wet lands but over the years, they have turned it into something very special. It has been Alexs's dream to get married by the pond and Erik happily made her dream his own. Alexs, Erik and her parents are so excited to share Sundance Ridge with each of you on June 24th!

Wedding Favors

Many years ago, when Alexs first started working for General Mills, she became close with a co-worker in Central PA, who in addition to working for the General, also had a candy company on the side. During one of their many days of working together, Alexs and Tina joked about how someday, Tina would make the favors for Alexs's wedding. Flash forward a few years to after the proposal, Alexs, having not forgotten their agreement, reached out to Tina. Tina embraced the challenge and designed favors to match Alexs's theme. Alexs and Erik have no doubt they will be a delicious touch on their special day! And if you are ever in Central PA, be sure to check out Tina's store, Chocolates by Tina Marie!

The Midland Farmers Market is located a minute walk away from The H Hotel and opens at 7 am on Saturdays. Check out local farmers and vendors offering a variety of fresh vegetables, fruit, baked goods, meat, fish, cheese, eggs, plants and flowers.

WhichCraft is one of Alexs and Erik's favorite Saturday afternoon hangouts when they are in Midland. They have an extensive beer, wine and cider menu, featuring craft brews from all over Michigan. WhichCraft is located a two minute walk from The H Hotel.

WhichCraft Taproom

The Dow Diamond is the home of the Great Lake's Loons, Midland's own minor league baseball team. The beautiful stadium is located one mile from The H Hotel. The Loon's will be playing at home Thursday, June 22nd through Sunday, June 25th against the South Bend Cubs. Tickets range from $7 to $35 for most seats. Check their website for more information.
