What is a Badeken?

Unlike some weddings that begin directly with the ceremony, traditional Jewish weddings like ours start with a joyful reception — in our case, a cocktail hour. During this time, you'll be welcomed by the bride, who will be seated on a stage surrounded by loved ones. Guests are invited to come up, share blessings, and soak in this special, spiritual moment with her. As the cocktail hour winds down, the Badeken begins. This is when the groom, accompanied by family and friends singing and dancing from the Tisch, comes to see the bride. In a deeply meaningful and emotional moment, he places the veil over her face — a tradition symbolizing love, modesty, and connection beyond the surface. The Badeken beautifully transitions us from celebration into ceremony.

What is a Tisch?

During the cocktail hour, the groom will take part in a tradition called the Tisch (Yiddish for “table”) in a separate room. It’s a lively gathering where the men come together to celebrate, sing, share blessings, and offer support to the groom before the ceremony. This is also where the Ketubah — the Jewish marriage contract — is signed, marking the first official step in the wedding. The Tisch is filled with laughter, energy, and sometimes even a little spirited chaos — all in good fun! While traditionally a space for men, everyone is welcome to stop by, even just for a few minutes, to be part of the joy and witness this special moment up close.

Is there transportation to and from the hotel to the ceremony?

Yes, if you are staying at the Canopy by Hilton Jersey City Arts District as a part of our room block, there will be a complimentary shuttle service to and from the venue.

When do the shuttles leave the hotel for the venue?

Please make sure you are in the lobby by 4:20pm to board the shuttle.

Is there parking on-site at the venue?

What should I wear?

Think formal — but not too formal. Suits and ties, cocktail dresses, or anything that makes you feel fancy and ready to dance are perfect. No need for tuxedos or ball gowns (unless you really want to!). Dress to impress, but most importantly, dress to celebrate!

Will the food be Glatt Kosher?

Yes! All food at our wedding will be strictly Kosher. We're working with Zami Caterers, and the entire menu is being prepared under their reliable supervision.

Where is the Aufruf taking place?
