The year was 1995: Selena Quintanilla performed at the Astrodome, hits like "Kiss from a Rose'' and "Waterfalls" topped the charts, and Monica Lewinsky was working overtime. More importantly, Alicia's pregnant mom, Celia, was taking a sculpting class at SFSU taught by Adriel's dad, Panchy. Unbeknownst to them, this was the beginning of their unborn children's love story.

Like any fairytale love story, there is a hero and a damsel in distress. In middle school, Adriel found himself in an embarrassing predicament, when he shattered his front tooth playing street hockey. Tears filled his eyes as he made his way, head hung low, to the school nurse's office. But just as he was experiencing the height of his humiliation, a beacon of light emerged. Alicia appeared and reassured him that everything would be okay and walked him to the nurse’s office. We’ll let you decide who the hero and damsel of this story is.

This marked the beginning of Adriel’s crush on Alicia. She has no memory of this.

In high school Adriel devised a 10-year plan to win Alicia’s heart.

- Step 1: Work-out every day and gain 20 pounds of muscle (he only lasted 3 days).

- Step 2: Learn to play the guitar (he was only able to master the air guitar).

- Step 3: Get braces.

- Step 4: Be the funniest person she knows.

- Step 5: Always treat her with respect and kindness.

To Alicia, only step 3 mattered.

All jokes aside, Alicia and Adriel began dating at 24-years-old after 17 years of friendship and look forward to spending the rest of their lives together. They are so appreciative to have a community of people that support their partnership and to celebrate their special day with.
