Alicia & Tom

Fall 2022 • Eau Claire, WI

I worked with Tom's friend, Cesar. Cesar and I got along and would often get into trouble for talking and laughing too much. For this reason, Cesar wanted to introduce me to Tom and honestly, I was not interested in meeting anyone new. Tom called Cesar one night while we were working late, and Cesar pushed his phone to me so that I could talk to Tom. We talked for a few minutes and in that time, Tom bragged about how he won the Catholic Quiz Bowl (not sure how that fit into our conversation, and I still have yet to see his plaque) and we quickly found that we had a lot in common. Still, I wasn't interested in starting anything with anyone and gave the phone back to Cesar. A year later and in the middle of our conversation Cesar said that I should really give his friend Tom a chance because he knew we would hit it off. I finally agreed and asked for his phone number.

I text Tom to mess with him a little, and before I knew it, we had a great conversation going about our mutual love for baseball, and who has the largest family. He said that I was funny and that we should go out for a drink. I took a minute to respond because up until that point I had not mentioned that I had two little girls who were seven and six at the time. I took a deep breath and I said, before we commit to a drink, you should know I have two little girls. I'm not interested in going out for a drink if my girls scare you.

Tom said that he wasn't scared and still wanted to take me out.

We made plans and not only have we talked every day since, but we have never stopped making each other laugh. He loves to push my buttons and I love to drive him crazy! We may not be perfect, but we are perfect for each other.

Olivia and Isabelle cautiously allowed Tom to spend more time with us. The girls had a Christmas concert at their school and was disappointed that it would only be me in the audience. Tom called me while he was on his way to play darts as he was in a league at the time. He asked if the girls were ready for their concert, and I told him of their disappointment. Tom dropped everything and showed up! When I told the girls that Tom was going to the concert, they were so happy! And just like that Tom became someone my girls could count on, and he has never let them down.

Our family is now complete with Avery joining our world on September 30, 2019. Our adventure continues...
