Where is the wedding located?

The wedding is located at a little ski hill, Harper Mountain, about 30 minutes outside of Kamloops, B.C. where Ali spent her first days of skiing. We booked the place for the whole weekend and there is tons of space to camp.

Where can we stay?

We would love for you to camp at Harper Mountain with us. There are grassy areas for tents and a nice gravel parking lot with loads of space for trailers. If you want to camp but want to be away from the party or need a hookup, Paul Lake Provincial Park Campground is 20 minutes away. If camping isn’t your style, Paul Lake also has some Air BnB and VRBO options and the city of Kamloops is 30 minutes away. We'd recommend a hotel in Valleyview or in the downtown area, there isn't much available closer to Harper as far as we know!

Are there showers? bathrooms?

There are bathrooms in the lodge, but there are no showers for guests. However, we do not have a strict dress code, so please don’t feel too stressed about looking fancy! There might be coin operated showers available at Paul Lake Provincial Park, but a cold dip in the lake could do the trick too!

What food should we bring?

Friday night features a potluck, but if you are flying, please do not feel you need to bring a dish: there will be loads to share! Stay tuned for more details - we will send out a google doc sign up sheet closer to the date. Saturday you will be on your own for food until the afternoon where we will provide light snacks and dinner. Please bring coolers/camping stoves as the kitchen will not be open for cooking to guests. Sunday we will do some sort of breakfast, but more details coming soon :) As with all camping, please be bear aware and keep all food in your car unless you are around your "site".

What about forest fires?

Ah, pesky forest fires. Hopefully we don't have to deal with this, but unfortunately we cannot control things. If its looking bad, we will update you with a back up plan. Please do not plan to have campfires or any open flame!

Should we bring our own alcohol?

Only the wine provided with dinner and alcohol purchased from the bartender is allowed in or around the lodge. However, you are more than welcome to bring your own drinks for the Friday evening/Saturday as long as you drink away from the lodge!

What can we do to help?

If you are keen to help, let us know! There will be many jobs to do on the Friday and then we will definitely need help cleaning up on the Sunday. The biggest help is to ensure you take all your own trash and cans out with you, and leave the place as clean as when we arrived! We want to put out lots of lawn games so if you have any please bring them and set them out on the lawn in front of the lodge!

What if I can't make it on Friday night?

No worries! Come camp for any night, or no nights, or all nights!

Should I bring my own dishes?

Yes please! We will provide dishes on Saturday night but would like you to have dishes for everything else. On Friday night we are hoping you could use your own but will also provide paper plates if not. There is a big kitchen where people can do their own dishes. Please do not dump dishwater outside!

What about my garbage?

We must bring all garbage we create out at the end of the weekend, if you could help us by bringing some garbage bags for your crew, that would be great. We will also bring lots of extra garbage bags and have garbage cans available!

What should I wear?

Wedding Casual - it is going to be hot! Please make sure you are comfortable as the ceremony will be outside. We totally get we are camping so whatever works for you - shorts, tie, tuxedo, ball gown and floral pants work for us! Sunglasses, Bug spray, a hat and sunscreen are also advisable.

Can I take pictures of the bride and groom with my phone?

We are planning on using an app that allows you to take pictures and share them with us as you go, so you are more than welcome (and encouraged!) to take photos any time except for the ceremony. Cell service is limited so we will see if the app works! During the ceremony, we have an awesome photographer that will be taking care of photos and we just want to enjoy this special moment with you!

Will this be a kid-friendly wedding?

We've invited a lot of families and hope you can all make it out. We are planning to put out lots of activities to do near the lodge, and think there will be lots of other kids to play with. So, we're pretty sure it will be a blast! There is a field that is a bit further from the lodge that we might designate the "quiet camping area" so the kids can get a good sleep - but any feedback about that is welcome! There is tons of space, hiking trails, mountain biking trails, and an amazing lake/beach at the provincial park!

Is there water available?

Drinking water will be available in the lodge, but you might want to bring some jugs to limit kitchen traffic.

When should we arrive? When should we leave?

You are welcome to arrive around 2:00 or later on Friday. The Potluck will start around 5:30. Unless you are part of the clean up crew, please try to leave around 12:00 on Sunday.

Is there cell phone service?

Cell service is spotty at best up at Harper, plan to have a phone free weekend and enjoy the mountains with us! If we do have service, or if you have questions before our big day please email or text us... Ali: 250 819 4541 Dom: 778 444 3796 dabmayhew@gmail.com

I don't have a car... how should I get there?

You definitely need some sort of vehicle to get to Harper. If you need help finding a ride, we can try to connect you to each other. Our current favorite car rental is Turo which is pretty affordable! There is no public transit available.

I don't have a tent/am flying to B.C.... what should we do?

We have some extra camping equipment, so shoot us a message if you need help getting set up. The other option is sleeping in the basement in the lodge - the floor is cement and hard, and it is an open space, but it is there if you need it!

We want to get you a present - what do you need?

It is totally not necessary to get us anything, as we know you are spending lots of time and money to be with us over the weekend. However, if you do really want to get us something, we are asking that you donate to our "house" fund. We've been saving intensely so that we can purchase a home and your help would be much appreciated. If you really want to buy us something, we will put a few things up on our registry, or would love something that you think is special for us. Anything that is on the registry is just an example - we LOVE used/thrifted things if they still work :). All e-transfers can be sent to dabmayhew@gmail.com or checks written to Alison and Dominic Mayhew. Thank you so much!!

Can we bring our dogs?

Yes, we love dogs! Dogs are more than welcome at Harper. There will be a ton of kids so please be mindful of keeping your dog with you at all times! We don't know everyone's comfort level so lets make sure everyone feels good before they roam freely. Dogs will not be allowed to enter into the lodge and please ensure you pick up after them.

Can I bring a +1?

Your invitation will let you know who is invited, if it includes a +1, go for it! Unfortunately, we are tight numbers wise so probably cannot accommodate any extra people!
