Our Wedding

John and Alissa met in the Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo Wind Orchestra. They started hanging out during spring tour in 1999, and for the rest of college, made dirty faces at each other from across the band room during rehearsals.Many excursions of off-roading, vacations, and silliness abounded for years with them, and friends from Cal Poly. Moving, careers, life took them in different directions.October 2020 - Alissa was traveling to Danielle Durbin's wedding, a former student of hers from Nipomo HS. In the midst of the pandemic, she was trying to figure out who she could see for a quick outdoor lunch in South County, and so she reached out to John. John offered up his array of collector cars to Danielle, just in case she wanted one for her wedding.That was the one thing Danielle wanted, so two days later John was at the reception in Nipomo. The photo shows them sitting in his 1953 MG at Danielle and Doug's wedding reception.Three years later, John and Alissa were engaged on December 23, 2023.

AIR TRAVEL

The Redding Airport is up the road from the wedding venue. There are daily flights out of LAX and SFO to Redding on United; SEA to Redding on Alaska, and BUR to Redding on Avelo (usually on Fridays and Mondays). Avelo can be CHEAP!Car rentals are available at the airport, along with cabs and ride-sharing like Uber and Lyft. Uber and Lyft are MINIMAL in our area.

Travel

Redding has a huge amount of walking/biking trails near the Sacramento River and the Sundial Bridge. www.turtlebay.org Hiking trails in the mountains are an easy drive on Saturday if you want to get out into nature. Castle Crags, Lassen Peak, McCloud Falls, Trinity Alps, etc. The list is huge. Since it's Memorial Weekend/Sunday wedding, we're working on putting together a day at Whiskeytown Lake/beach on Saturday. We do have one boat, but we can't put all on there! Getting together with others to rent a boat could be fun! We can also shuttle folks potentially. More details to follow here. Wear sunscreen! We're also looking at doing a no-host get together at a restaurant or brewery Saturday night. More info to come on this site. Great brunch spots include Lulu's, Mosaic, CR Gibbs, Moonstone Bistro, Deja Vu, View 202, and the Post Office Saloon. And of course, the wedding is at Churn Creek Golf Course.
