We first met the weekend before I started medical school. JP was a year ahead of me, and the second years had thrown a welcome party for the new class. At the party, he had talked to me a couple times, but while I kept wondering why this guy wasn’t flirting with me, I somehow managed to unintentionally reject him… multiple times. Luckily, JP gave it another shot about a month later, and the rest has been history.

On the afternoon JP proposed, I thought we were going to a garden party work event with my friend Claire. About 15 minutes before JP was supposed to pick me up, he bailed! I was livid. Claire picked me up and we headed to her work event anyways. As we pulled into the parking lot at Will Rogers Gardens, there was JP with a bouquet of my favorite flowers. We took a walk through the gardens and stopped by a big floral arrangement he had set up where he popped the question!
