Our Trip From Anchorage to Seward

Anchorage to Girdwood to Seward

Anchorage

Forty-Ninth State Brewing This is a must-visit in Alaska. They have the best Alaskan blueberry pie. There are other locations in Denali and at the airport. It is a good place to hang out and wait for your flight. It does get crowded so if you are with a large group, get there when it opens.

Girdwood

Alaskan Wildlife Conservation Center takes injured and orphaned wild animals. If you want to see wildlife up close, make a stop here!

Alyeska Aerial Tram This is a popular activity for tourists to do. It takes you to the top of the mountain for expansive views of the Chugach Mountains and there is a lodge at the top.

Nordic Spa at Alyeska Hot, cold, rest, repeat. The Nordic spa in the mountains has many different hot tubs, cold plunges, and saunas to spend a day relaxing. We felt great after!

Alyeska Resort Summer Activities

Seward

Alaska Sea Life Center takes in injured and orphaned sea animals. Was not our favorite visit but it was cool to see.

Exit Glacier will likely not be around forever so I would visit it now! Starting in the 1800s, markers have been posted along the trail as a visual reminder of the glacier’s retreat.

Seward is well known for its world-class fishing and kayaking. We highly recommend going on a glacier or sightseeing tour! There are hiking trails accessible from land and from water taxi.

With just a 10-to-15-minute drive out of Seward, you can hike right up to the Kenai Fjords National Park's Exit Glacier. There are 3 trails available to take at the trailhead.

1. Glacier View Loop Trail - about 1 mile in total and wheelchair accessible. This takes you to a view spot overlooking the outwash plain with a sweeping panorama of the glacier’s descent.

2. Glacier View Loop & Glacier Overlook Trail - Hike another .6 mile from the loop and climb part way up the exposed rock to an overlook of the glacier itself.

3. Harding Icefield Trail - This is about a 9-mile hike gaining 3,100 ft in elevation. This spectacular trail takes you from the valley floor, climbing over 1,000 feet to a view of the largest existing icefield that is completely located in the United States. You'll travel through beautiful meadows to an area well above the treeline.
