We met in an unconventional, albeit quite modern way. Matt was living in Norfolk, VA working at the Naval Shipyard and I, (Allie), was in my last year of my Pediatric Residency in Long Island, NY. I was in the midst of interviewing and ranking my fellowship match list, which included locations across the US. We were both battling the plights of online dating (if you know, you know). I had my heart set on moving to Virginia and having nothing to lose, changed my dating app location to Norfolk. As Matt describes, he was trying to decide if he wanted to continue on dating apps. As fate would have it, we were on at the same time. I distinctly remember walking down the pediatric ICU hall, browsing my "likes", when I saw a picture of a handsome, brown-eyed guy sitting on the couch next to his copper-colored dog. I almost didn't match with him, knowing it was a long shot we'd actually have the chance to connect (I didn't know where I would be moving to at this point).

To start, when we first started talking, I had no idea she wasn't in Virginia. I asked her which beaches she liked to go to in the area and she decided to tell me she wasn't local. Despite the distance, I decided to give it a shot, which led to numbers exchanged, our first phone call, and ultimately many video dates before I decided it was time to visit her 2 weeks after we started talking. I remember calling my sister (now Bridesmaid, Jordan), asking if I was insane for doing this. Her response was overwhelmingly supportive and happy I was giving it a chance

We met and the rest was history. I didn't believe in the statement "when you know, you know" until we met each other. We knew pretty quickly we wanted to be together and did not want to be in a long distance relationship for too long. I ended up matching a great fellowship program in Ohio, and Matt made the life changing decision to come with me just a few months after knowing each other. Now, we get to see each other every day and share a house with our two cats, Luna and Gus, and dog, Copper.
