Our Story

Michael’s Perspective

If you give a boy a cookie, he will want the whole box. If you show a boy a beautiful, funny, creative, and God-fearing woman, he will want to marry her.

When Allison and I met, we were both attending Tennessee Tech University. We both had become a part of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry our freshman year and began to get plugged into that community right from the start. We knew of each other through BCM functions but didn’t get close until our second semester. We didn’t have our first date until May 1st, 2019, but our journey from acquaintances to significant others began a few months prior.

If it hadn’t been for one BCM event in particular, our story may have been very different. In the early spring of 2019, the annual event known as the Pie Auction was held at the BCM. This is where any woman can bring their pie of choice where the pie is auctioned off with all proceeds going towards summer missions. Prior to the event beginning, I leaned over to my friend Bradley and told him, “If anyone brings a key lime pie, I will pay any amount for it.” So after almost everyone’s pies had been auctioned off, and not seeing any key lime pies, I began to get disappointed, until Allison Day walked across the stage holding what I found out to be an amazing key lime pie. At this point, I knew very little about her outside of her name, but I knew I would spend any amount of money for that pie (even if I was a broke college student). After a fierce bidding war between myself and one of the college ministers, I paid quite a healthy amount of money and was rewarded with an amazing key lime pie, which I ate in its entirety in less than 2 hours mostly by myself. From this interaction, we began talking more frequently and slowly after a few months of getting to know each other in group settings, I asked her to go on a date with me to see a movie and thankfully she said yes!

Following a few more dates together, we made it official on May 16th, 2019, and have happily been together ever since! I thank God everyday for the amazing woman He has put into my life, and we look forward to celebrating the next chapter in our story with you all this coming April!

“Michael Powell. Michael Powell?” That’s what was going through my head when he bought my pie. He was the last person I expected to walk up and purchase what ended up being the very first pie I had ever made. I’ll spare you the gushy details, as I’m sure you’ve just read Michael’s account of our story.

What I will tell you about is how impressed I was with him on our first date. We were both nervous wrecks, but he asked questions about my life and listened as a friend who really cared. He was so respectful the whole night, and I wasn’t used to being treated like that on dates. In relationships, I had always felt the pressure of saying the wrong thing, or making sure I had makeup on that day. With Michael, I felt so comfortable. I couldn’t explain what it was. He was my partner, but he was also my friend. He continues to be the best friend I’ve ever known (outside of Jesus).

As we’ve grown together, we’ve watched each other change from early college teenagers to young adults in the working world. Michael Powell is the most patient man I’ve ever met. He was probably ready to get married back in 2021, but he graciously waited until I was ready. I didn’t go to college looking for a husband, but I sure am thankful God has blessed me with Michael.

If you’ve reached the end of our story, thanks for taking the time to read, and thank you for being in our lives and loving on us as you’ve done. We can’t wait to celebrate with y’all in April!
