Her Story

Friday August 21st, 2015 is the day that it all started! A few days earlier, Allison was asked by her good friend Katie to photograph Baker Night at Davidson College. She wasn't exactly sure what she was getting herself into but happy to help out a friend. Little did she know that this event was going to change her life forever!

At Baker Night a few the kādi ambassadors were promoting the studio by hosting a big dance party for the incoming Davidson freshmen at the Belk Arena on campus. While Allison was running around the basketball court like a fool taking photos, Josh caught a glimpse, recognized her, and spent the duration of the event mustering up the courage to approach her. At the end of the event, Josh strategically positioned himself so that as Allison was running up the steps, he casually said, "Hey, aren't you Gailey Walters' friend?" This stopped her dead in her tracks- STUNNED that someone down here knew her best friend from Virginia. Really, who in the world would know Gailey in North Carolina?! She was intrigued to see who the stranger talking to her was. As soon as she looked at the tall, handsome man who was talking to her, she instantly knew who he was- Josh Graham! Allison was shocked that he was talking to her and they had the briefest of conversations (only because she wanted to get back to her friends and text Gailey that she had just met Josh).

It didn't end there, being the Facebook stalker that Allison is, she went home and looked him up. To her surprise, they were already friends! She sent him a Facebook message under the guise of getting his swimmers to come to kādi for pre-season training (good excuse to talk him again, right?). The conversation wasn't hard to find at this point, and from there, the instant connection was obvious. Josh asked Allison for her number and their love story began.

Allison and Josh had their first date on August 26th, 2015, at Kindred in Davidson, NC. A few months later on February 26th, 2016, at a mountain cabin in Bryson City, NC, Josh and Allison toasted to the 1st night of the rest of their lives!

His Story

Josh, with a grin from ear to ear, will be the first to tell you that it was "love at second sight." As he stood at the top of John M. Belk Arena, on the campus of Davidson College where he coaches, he saw Ali in person for the second time. The first time was some six years earlier, where he often referred to her as "the cute coach in the hat" whenever he would see her on the pool deck when she coached for PSDN. That night Josh was fulfilling his obligation to participate in what the college calls Baker Night. It's a freshman orientation event, where the entire freshmen class comes to John Belk Arena during their first week on campus and are introduced to the athletic side of Davidson with the entire athletic staff in attendance.

Josh was there for work and Ali was there with her tribe, kādi, who were hired by Davidson to basically start a dance party. Ali was there to document with photos all of the awkward moments that happen when you get 500 18 year olds together and try to make them dance. In any event, Ali caught Josh's attention. So much so that he turned to his coworker and said, "I think I know that girl taking pictures. I'm totally going to talk to her after this." So for the next 25 minutes, Josh plotted on how he could break the ice. When things were wrapping up, he made sure to position himself right at the top of the steps Ali was walking up. As she passed, he struck... "Hey, you are Gailey Walters' friend right?" Josh knew that throwing out her best friend's name would at least get him a response!

"Oh, hey! Yeah, you're Josh, aren't you?" Boom! She knew him, he thought, but it was quickly after her response that she shut down the conversation. "It was nice meeting you, I gotta go back to my friends now."

Feeling satisfied with his attempt, Josh went on about his business and met back up with the coworker. "So, how was it?" the coworker asked.

"Well," Josh replied, "the sparks didn't fly!"

Little to their knowledge, Ali would then go home and stalk Josh on Facebook, where she would ultimately message him with a see-through attempt at trying to recruit his swimmers to workout at kādi fit. The two chatted and eventually exchanged numbers. A week or so later they went out on their first date, and if you ask any of their friends, they have been inseparable since!
