Our Wedding

It turns out the world is smaller than we ever realized. Karl and I grew up just ten minutes apart in Albuquerque, NM. He even life-guarded at a local pool my family went to, we had mutual friends, and we both frequented the same New Mexico staples. Yet somehow, we never crossed paths—at least not until years later, when we ended up in California working on the same project together developing a next-generation stent. Karl loved to hike, bike, ski, and be outdoors, and we instantly connected over that. During our first year of knowing each other, we went on countless bike rides, grabbed coffee afterward, and saw each other every day at work. I was struck by what a thoughtful listener he was, his perspective on things, and his calm, steady nature. When I finally worked up the courage to tell him I liked him, he actually beat me to it, asking me out moments before I planned to say something. In hindsight, maybe I should’ve caught on when people kept telling me what a bad texter Karl is… while I was getting multiple texts a day from him.We spent two great years together in California—Tahoe trips, national park adventures, hikes, and exploring new places. In 2024, we decided to move to SLC together, and we’ve loved it. Our weekends are now filled with skiing, hiking, and biking in the Wasatch, and this fall we adopted our dog, Sadie. I knew Karl was up to something when he asked a week in advance if I wanted to go do a fall-leaves photoshoot. Sure enough, he proposed in Millcreek Canyon on September 27, 2025. We can’t wait to get married in August 2026, celebrating back in the state where we both grew up.

Her Version

Funny enough, Allison and I first met when she interviewed me for a job at Stryker in California while I was living out of my truck in North Carolina. She immediately thought, I can change him, so she gave me the job to see if she really could fix me. Spoiler alert, she was successful as we now live in a well-decorated house with a dog that gets dressed up in a pink sweater sometimes.In California, we became close both at work, where she mentored me on how to behave in corporate America, and outside of work, where I mentored her in evaluating various craigslist bike and ski deals. Probably no surprise that we were both crushing on each other for most of this time but felt a little awkward about it given how close we worked together. After about a year of our secret crush, we both separately decided that we were going to profess our crush to one another on the same day, with me beating her to the punch by only moments. To my great excitement and relief (could have been an awkward work environment if she didn’t like me), she also felt the same way and we set our first date for later that week!About two weeks into us seeing each other, Allison suggested that we should go to Tahoe, and to my surprise, she suggested we just stay in the back of my truck, that’s when I knew she was the one (pause for huge amounts of laughter). Our weekend in Tahoe staying in the truck was great and capped off by our relationship becoming official when I told a gas station attendant that “my girlfriend” thinks she left her glasses in the bathroom so I need the key again (pause for even more laughter). Since we are both from Albuquerque, we even met each other’s parents over Christmas after “dating” for only about a week, yikes. But the convenience of not having to travel to different locations on holidays, made me think I’m ok with moving so fast, I guess.After a year or so of long drives to Tahoe for skiing and biking/camping trips to the Sierra’s, we decided it might be better for us to just live near mountains, and we began planning our escape from the bay area. After a trip to SLC, a place I have always wanted to live, I was able to convince Allison that she also wanted to live there. I was even able to convince her that it was a good idea to tow a U-Haul with everything we owned through the Sierra mountains with my 20 year old truck to save a couple of dollars, luckily, we made it.We have been so happy in SLC that we decided we will just do this forever, and so we are going to have a great big party with all our friends and family to celebrate how happy and in love we are and to let everyone know that we will be doing exactly what we are currently doing for the rest of eternity.We are excited to see you all in the mountains of Santa Fe for our wedding.

Getting Here

Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ)The easiest option is to fly into Albuquerque, which is about an hour’s drive from Santa Fe. We recommend renting a car at the airport so you can enjoy the scenic drive and have flexibility during your stay. Santa Fe Regional Airport (SAF)For those who prefer a smaller airport, Santa Fe also has its own regional airport. Flights are more limited, but it’s a convenient option if available.

Getting Around

Renting a car is highly recommended, especially if you’re flying into Albuquerque. Santa Fe is a walkable city once you’re downtown, but having a car makes it easier to explore the surrounding area. For the wedding, we recommend carpooling as parking is limited, or taking an Uber to the venue.

Travel & Accomodations

Our celebration will take place outdoors at Hyde Memorial State Park, surrounded by the beauty of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, just outside of Santa Fe. With that in mind, we’d love for everyone to be dressed up, but still comfortable. Guidelines For Women: Mid-length or summery dresses are perfect. Think light fabrics, flowy silhouettes, and shoes you can walk in on grass or uneven ground. For Men: Suit jackets or blazers with dress pants or chinos. Ties are optional—feel free to keep it relaxed yet polished. Overall Vibe: Elevated but easygoing. Imagine garden party chic meets mountain celebration. The weather in Santa Fe can be warm during the day and cooler in the evening, so layers or a light wrap are a good idea. Since we’ll be outdoors, we recommend comfortable shoes (block heels, wedges, or dressy flats).

Tips

Santa Fe is at high altitude (7,000 feet), so stay hydrated and take it easy if you’re not used to it. Many attractions are walkable downtown, but a car is helpful for exploring beyond the city center.
