We met at University of Arizona while we were in our Masters of Accounting Program in 2017. Matt was in the Tax track and Allison was in the Audit track, and we end up in one class together - assigned to the same group project. In the era of google docs and texting we did not actually meet in person for this group project. This is how Matt slyly got Allison's number and they began texting about the accounting program.
About a month later (April 2017) Allison was grabbing happy hour with accounting friends at Illegal Pete's on University when a few of the tax friends brought Matt along. Matt introduced himself by saying "Hi, I don't think we've actually met in person, I'm Matt".
From there we kept hanging out with groups of friends and got to know each other.
We officially started dating shortly after graduating from the Master's program on May 23rd, 2017. It caught both of us by surprise, especially because Matt was set to move to Seattle in the middle of June to begin his new job. We both felt that this was the beginning of something special, so we agreed to give long distance a shot. For the next 15 months Allison would fly up to Seattle every other month and Matt would fly home to Arizona for holidays and when he had enough money saved up to make the trip. Finally, Matt was able to talk Allison into moving to Seattle in September 2018 (mostly with the help of his new dog, Bibby). Long distance was finally over!
We started a life together in Seattle, and the rest is history! We now own a townhome in Ballard and have made this old Norwegian fishing village our home!
Allison loves her birthday. Like, really, really loves her birthday. Almost certainly because she is a twin (Hi Nicole!). There is no party like an Allison birthday party. Knowing this full well, Matt decided to get all of their closest Seattle friends together for her 28th birthday for a night of karaoke. It was the perfect night, everyone was there to celebrate Allison and she was able to belt out "Goodbye Earl" for the 1,000th time.
Unbeknownst to Allison, Matt had hatched a plan to propose during this party. With the help of a few of Allison's girlfriends Matt sneakily bought the ring, hid the ring, and threw Allison off the scent. About 90 minutes into karaoke, Matt bought a round of drinks for everyone and gave a toast. During his toast, Matt told Allison that he wanted to spend the rest of her birthdays with her! Allison was shocked, and if you haven't seen the video we recommend that you watch. We can't wait to be married and have you all at our special day!
