Admission to the botanical gardens is free! This is a great way to spend the afternoon, and is near the main street of Mountain Brook- an adorable area to eat and shop!

Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Explore the foothills of the Appalachians in the 9,940 acre State park that is known for its hiking trails and natural beauty, including the 65-foot Peavine Falls.&nbsp;Admission is $5 per person.

Oak Mountain State Park

Meet the locals of Birmingham by visiting Pepper’s Place Farmer’s Market! The Market is open from 7am-12pm on Saturdays, rain or shine! December 13th will be the last weekend that the market is open for the year, so be sure to check it out and find fresh produce, honey, kombucha, and baked goods! While you’re there, check out the Red Cat Cafe that is located near the market- it’s one of our favorite coffee shops!

The Farmers Market at Pepper Place | Outdoors

Birmingham was nicknamed "The Magic City" rose rapidly in the late 1800s thanks to its rare natural combo of coal, iron ore, and limestone, perfect for making iron and steel. To show off its industrial power, the city created Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and forge, as a massive cast iron statue for the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. Now perched atop Red Mountain, Vulcan stands as the world’s largest cast iron statue and a symbol of Birmingham’s fiery roots, industrial might, and enduring spirit. Adult admission to the museum is $6.

Vulcan Park and Museum

Built in 1927 as a lavish movie palace for Paramount films, the Alabama Theatre in downtown Birmingham is a beloved historic landmark known for its opulent architecture and its iconic Mighty Wurlitzer organ. The theatre will be showing classic Christmas films and would be a perfect way to see the heart of Birmingham! Across the street, make sure to stop by Cala Coffee Co.!

Alabama Theatre

The Birmingham Museum of Art is Alabama’s largest art museum, boasting a collection of over 24,000 works from around the world—spanning ancient through contemporary eras. Highlights include impressive holdings in Asian art, European paintings, American craft and decorative arts, as well as one of the finest collections of African art in the Southeast. Admission to the museum is free.
