It was spring 2015 and I was OVER dating in NYC.

After trying every dating method known to man (OK Cupid, Hinge, Coffee Meets Bagel, Tinder… oh and good old fashioned meeting in real life) I decided to swear off dating and enjoy the summer with my girls in the city.

At about the same time, I got an email that my subscription to JDate was going to expire. Honestly, I had forgotten I even got a JDate subscription. But since I had previously spent the money, I figured I should at least take a look on what was out there.

One of the first profiles I came across was for this cute (bearded!) Jewish lawyer. Not thinking much of it, I sent the guy - who I soon learned was named Mike - a note. After exchanging messages for about a week through the JDate app, Mike asked if I wanted to meet in real life. So we exchanged phone numbers to coordinate. However, in typical me fashion, my life was crazy. Between travelling to 7 different cities in 6 weeks for work, taking my mom to Italy for 2 weeks, and my grandfather passing away, the end of Summer 2015 was fast approaching and I still hadn’t met Mike in real life. Through it all, Mike and I continued to speak on a regular basis. Being a jaded New Yorker however I had resigned myself that this was just another guy who seemed great but would never be anything. After analyzing it over and over with my girlfriends, I decided to give Mike one last chance to meet in person and if it didn’t work out I would move on. So we found a Sunday we were both around and I let him know that after all this time talking our first date better be “epic”.
