Allie had a boyfriend at the time so it was nothing more than friendship for the two. Although Zach says he instantly fell for Allie. It was only a few weeks after they met that Zach was telling his parents about her and how he wished she was single because he thought that she could be “the one. “ His dad gave him advice to hang in there and ride the friendship out to see if anything changed.
Zach remained just a friend but tried to put in extra effort to see Allie. He attended all of her soccer games, was there to help bring in groceries, set up friend group movie nights, bowling, and really any chance he got to see her he took it. Even if it meant being one of the people she vented to about her current relationship issues.
It was about a month and a half into there friendship that Allie started to realize that her friendship with Zach was not just a typical friendship. That they shared so much in common, and really complimented each other. She was still in a relationship with someone else at the time but was starting to see how poorly she was treated in it. This was in part because of how greatly Zach treated her. Some how Zach was always there to dry her tears when something went wrong in her current relationship.
Zach took Allie to a Yankee Red Sox game in NY where he admitted to her how he felt about her. He told her he liked her as more than a friend. He told her he respected that she was in a relationship and didn’t want to interfere but couldn’t go another day without her truly knowing he felt.
Allie told him that she liked him to but wanted to keep it as a friendship. She did give him some hope and said she wanted to wait until she saw her boyfriend at the time in person during Thanksgiving break to see if they could work on bettering their relationship or if it was time to call it quits.
Zach knew that Allie was worth the wait and believed that they were meant to be together he remained patient. During this period of time he did get to meet Allies mom and grandma at a few of her soccer games. Allie’s s mom says that she was “watching Allie play in a game one day and Zach was standing on the fence watching her. Allie went down and got hurt at one point and Zach looked like he was going to jump the fence. She said she knew that they would be together.”
The two remained as just friends. Until one day Zach got a text from Allie asking him to come over. Allie recalls Zach walking into her room with a giant bowl of cereal and milk all over his face. When he finally realized all the pictures of her and her then boyfriend were taken off the walls. They had broken up, and Zach could not be any happier about it. He tried to hide his excitement from her.
