If you're coming from out of town, you can drive here and pay to park on the street (recommend ParkMobile app). If you Uber/Lyft, I recommend getting dropped off here then renting a Scooter to ride around all of the monuments & White House (saves money and it's way more fun).
Check out the Vietnam Memorial next to the Lincoln Memorial before heading down the reflecting pool!
Walk or hop on a Scooter down the reflecting pool to get to the Washington Monument. Once you're at the Washington Monument, either turn left to go to the White House and see Uncle Joe or keep going straight to get to the Capitol.
*Note: if you want to get a tour of the White House, go to https://www.nps.gov/whho/planyourvisit/the-white-house-tour.htm for instructions!
Here ye, Uncle Joe and Auntie KAMALA
5 story mall!
Ok this is a bit far from Alexandria/Arlington (~30 min drive); however, WORTH the drive. Their Taiwanese Chicken Sandwich and Boba is AMAZING!! The beautiful Tyson's Mall is also around the block.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you've never had it
It looks sketchy; however, this hidden gem is by a pretty canal and the sushi is yummy!
Super pretty boardwalk area with amazing food and drinks! Parking is about $5. The outdoor Tanger Outlets are up the street and MGM casino is next door as well!
Our favorite place!! We love parking at Jones Point Park (for free!) and walking down the spectacular bike path for about 1 mile until we reach the waterfront where you can eat at any of the beautiful restaurants/bars by the water. We recommend BARCA, Ada's on the River, and Vola's. Turn left on King Street and find a ton of ice cream shops to satisfy your sweet tooth :)

The Wharf is another super cute boardwalk with great restaurants and bars.
Hipster restaurant/bar! Also, parking is free hehe
