The date was April 26th, 2019. Althea had just finished the final exam of her Bachelor’s Degree, and decided to go out with her best friend, Liz, to grab a drink and give a proper “cheers” to the occasion.

They landed on Fionn Macools and grabbed a seat at the bar, when Althea noticed a very handsome man standing across the room. It was none other than Gavin, who happened to be the bar manager. Althea and Gavin spent a good amount of time making eyes at each other, whilst Althea and Liz both got to work getting the scoop on Gavin from the bartender who was serving them.

Althea noticed a family enter the bar with a small child, and that’s when Gavin decided to make his move. He came over and apologized, saying that they would have to change the song that was playing as it was totally inappropriate for the 3-year-old who just came in.

Althea wasn’t sure why he was telling her about all this, but she went with it. She told him that she didn’t care about the song, but that there was no way the child was only 3 years old - she had to be at least 5. Gavin and Althea argued about this for a minute or two before striking up a bet - whomever was wrong about the child’s age would have to buy the other a drink. Liz approached the family to find out this information, and unfortunately for Althea, the child was indeed a very large 3 year old! Though Gavin was working, both him and Althea kept stealing moments throughout the night to chat about anime, opera, and everything in between. According to Gavin, after their first conversation, he went back to his friend George (who happened to be the DJ that night) and told him that he had found his future wife.

They went on their first date on April 30th, 2019, during which it was revealed that the reason Gavin had approached Althea about the song in the first place was because the DJ - George - had told him that Althea was the one who requested it! Though that wasn’t the case, Gavin and Althea are both grateful to George for his little fib!

After spending some time getting to know each other, Gavin and Althea made their relationship official on July 12th, 2019 (hence their chosen wedding date), and true to his word, on the 4 year anniversary of their first date, Gavin asked Althea to marry him. Neither of them can wait to tie the knot and embark on their next chapter as husband and wife!
