How did you decide to have such an unconventional reception?
A couple of reasons:
1) Given the theme (Upstage the Bride), we wanted to give y'all an opportunity to strut your stuff! Having such fabulously dressed people holed up in a Community Center just didn't feel right.
2) The Square is an important part of our love story and daily life. We know several folks are coming into town for the event, and we wanted to give you a chance to experience the place we love.
Will there be toasts?
If you want to! The Wedding Party has a rehearsal dinner and brunch after the ceremony, when folks can give toasts. You're also more than welcome to say something when we visit your reception location. But no pressure!
Will there be dancing?
Alas, no -- or at least not in any traditional, organized way. If you want to sway to some of the buskers around the Square or to your own tune, please do! But with how our reception is set up, there won't be a traditional dance program (i.e. father-daughter; mother-son).
Can we really try to Upstage the Bride?
Yes, please! As the invite says: The theme is optional, and no rules. Just try your best and may the odds be ever in your favor.
Everyone in the wedding has this same theme, from Ryan and the Wedding Party to every single guest. We won't know what anyone is wearing until the day of the wedding.
So far, we know of at least one person wearing their wedding dress (from 20 years ago) and one potential cosplay. Knock yourselves out!
But please do wear comfortable shoes: We want y'all comfortable when you’re out and about on the Square!
Do you have a registry?
We do not. Your presence is truly the present -- while we will provide champagne and cake pops, please come prepared to cover your reception tab.
Where should we park?
Georgetown has lots of free, street and surface parking lots available around and off the Square.
We recommend arriving about 10-15 minutes early to make sure you can find a spot! The City opened a new, covered parking garage just one block north of the Square at Austin Avenue and Sixth Street, too! It is free as well.
I don't have a car. How can I get around?
Uber is very active in Georgetown. If you are traveling within the city limits of Georgetown, the City offers vouchers for Uber rides within our service area: You pay the first $4, and the City picks up the next $10!
