A funny thing about online dating is the interests you choose to highlight. More adventurous hobbies, like travel and the outdoors, get bumped up the list while other more personal or nerdy interests don't make the cut. In the case of Kyle and Alyse, an initial shared interest was hiking, which is how they ended up on their first date exploring Minnehaha Falls. On that day, they bonded over their love for Bob Dylan and didn't go hiking again for the next three years. This sparked a never-ending music discussion that has evolved as they've gotten to know each other. From jazz to prog rock, punk to world music, they never run out of things to nerd-out about. When Alyse called out the Picardy third in the final cadence of Yes' "Roundabout" on a road trip, Kyle knew he had found someone special.

They talk about other things, too. Their families, their careers, their dreams and fears. Kyle tries unsuccessfully to get Alyse to care about sports and Alyse (more successfully) teaches Kyle to appreciate visual art. They try new recipes and new hobbies together and never seem to tire of one another's company. But they always come back to music.

Nowadays, it's hard to imagine a time when they didn't know each other - a time before the ongoing music discussion began. Here's to it never ending.
