Yes, we actually met at a bar. Both of us were living in New York City at the time. Alyssa a recent graduate, and Zach in his final year of undergrad. The much esteemed establishment was Greenwich Treehouse in the West Village, and the date was November 3, 2011 (Zach's 22nd birthday). As Zach made his way to the bar from the back room (where he and a group of friends had been settled for quite some time) he heard a voice call out, "You look like you could be in a boy band!" Taken a bit off guard he glanced around to see who had yelled the "compliment," and there was Alyssa. "Thanks," said Zach, "it's my birthday."
After that night we spent the next several months casually running into each other and chatting at Treehouse. One evening in April Alyssa happened to mention that her birthday was coming up soon. Zach was going to be in Switzerland playing with a group from school, but he asked Alyssa if they could "grab a drink in honor of her birthday" when he got back. So smooth. Alyssa agreed, and numbers were exchanged. Sure enough, when Zach got back he texted Alyssa to see if she was still interested in getting together (she totally was).
On the first date Zach learned that Alyssa "didn't date only children," but he was undeterred. The second date came a few days later when Zach, hoping his musician cred might help Alyssa reconsider her stance on only children, asked Alyssa if she felt like coming out to Brooklyn for a backyard show that his band was playing. She said she would (musician cred FTW) and the two of them had a great time talking and dancing the rest of the night.
The next day Zach informed Alyssa that he was going home to Vermont for the summer, but he urged her to come visit. Taken somewhat aback, Alyssa said she'd think about it, and they parted ways.
Over the next several days, Alyssa was on Zach's mind a lot. Summer in Vermont was beautiful, but he wanted to share it with her. Less than a week after going home, Zach sent Alyssa a message on Facebook telling her that he was thinking of her a lot and would love her to come visit for a weekend. Somehow she said yes, and the two of us haven't been apart for more than 2 weeks since.
