This is the story of Alyssa and Elliott. They met through an app meant for communication. Through this communication, a spark ignited.

January 2019, Elliott replied to a post made by Alyssa. She was a bit fed up with certain unwanted people responding to her posts, so she asked if there was anyone besides 30-year-old Creeps on this app. Elliott replied, “I’m not 30 years old.” Naturally, Alyssa’s response was “Oh so you’re just a creep?” They proceeded to text, snap, and message for a month before they decided to meet for the first time.

Now Alyssa was not stupid and assumed that meeting a stranger off the internet had the inherent risk of him being an axe murderer. So, she offered to drive. As she pulled up to where he was staying, she took the proper precautions of leaving the car in park and having a bat at the ready. But as she got her first glance of him walking down the driveway, she knew he was safe. They spent the day at the park, talking for hours, forgetting to eat lunch and dinner. (For those who know them, you know this was a miracle in itself!)

Over the next couple of months, they hung out every chance they had, all the while completely denying any feelings. Alyssa was soon to depart for college and was determined to leave unattached. But as we all know, their feelings are just as stubborn as they are and eventually won over. They backdated their official dating anniversary to the first date they went on, February 13th, 2019, and continued to date until she left.

For the next two years, they continued to date long distance until COVID-19 sent everyone home. When she returned, Elliott spent so much time at Alyssa’s house that he accidentally moved in. In July 2022, they bought their first home together in his hometown. They still happily reside there with two fur babies, Scarlet Anne and Beauregard.

Now for the story everyone wants to hear, how did Elliott propose?

Sometime in the beginning of 2023, Alyssa and Elliott decided it was time to take the next step. So Alyssa told Elliott to pick a ring, buy it, and surprise her with the proposal. And if you know either of them, this is no easy task. Between Elliott’s indecisiveness and Alyssa’s nosiness, he had his work cut out for him.

The day finally came in July of 2023.

It was a hot summer day and Alyssa had just bought a puppy splash pad for everyone to play with and cool off in. Elliott watched through the window as Alyssa splashed water into the air and the dogs jumped to bite it. Surrounded by barking and laughter, Elliott was overcome with emotion and knew this was the moment. He grabbed the ring and headed back out to help clean up.

They took a moment to watch the pups wander amongst the summer breezes. Mesmerized by the windchimes, Alyssa didn’t notice Elliott drop to his knee. He attempted to make a grand movie-esque speech but stumbled over his words. He spoke of his troubles to find the right moment, and how he’s been waiting for weeks. But none of them felt right, not until that day when he felt nothing but happiness and love. He said he never thought he’d have a true home or someone to want a future with but now that’s all he can see. So, it makes sense that that home is the only place he could do this. He then said he was going to stop fumbling over his words and ask the question because the concrete was hurting his knee. Alyssa laughed through this whole speech, then helped him up and let him ask. Then it went as you imagine, he asked, she said yes, and proceeded to flip about how gorgeous the ring was.
