If you know Aaron, you’ve probably heard him tell his version of how we met, with his usual “it was all Bumble’s fault” joke. Well, that’s not entirely accurate, but hey, it’s a fun spin! The real story starts with my good friend Nicole, who deserves all the credit (or blame?) for this one.
It all started when we decided to celebrate a great day, and Nicole convinced me to go to Rip Van Winkle Brewery. She had me call ahead to make sure there was room at the bar, and when I did, the host casually mentioned, “There are some guys who’ve been here a while, but they’ll probably leave soon.” Spoiler: they didn’t.
We arrived, I snagged a spot for Nicole and me at a high-top table, and we patiently waited for a space at the bar to open up. When we finally moved over, we asked the bartender if they could put hockey on the TV. That’s when Aaron, the self-proclaimed expert on all things New York, turned to us and said, “NY girls like hockey?” Without skipping a beat, we both shouted, “Yes!” And just like that, the conversation was on.
For the rest of the night, we couldn’t stop talking. By the end of the evening, we had exchanged numbers—and just to keep things interesting, I even gave him my real name. (Yep, not the fake one I usually give out at bars. Big step for me!)
Then came the bill. I insisted on paying for mine and Nicole’s tab, but of course, by the end of the night, we were racing to pay the bartender before anyone else. That’s when Aaron pulled the ultimate move and paid for all of our tabs. I was shocked—and so was Nicole.
As we walked out, Nicole turned to me and said, “You got his number!” I smirked and replied, “Yep.” Later that night, Aaron sent me a text asking, “How do I get a girl like you to go out with me?” I shot back with, “You just ask.” And guess what? He did. The very next day, we went out, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Fast forward almost four years, and here we are, getting married! We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you!
