It’s 2017.

We had both started working at the same company around the same time that summer and went to a grand opening for one of the new clinics.

There I spotted him and, with some liquid courage, got to chatting. More specifically about riot fest (which I was attending the next day). We immediately bonded over a band we both LOVED (Best Coast). And I told him he HAD to catch her performance and go to riot fest the next day.

I put my number in his phone and left.

The next morning I texted him that I hoped he got his riot fest tickets…I don’t joke about these things.

Turn to Eddie-he had been so torn because he was financially strapped after just starting to work and moving to the city.

So he asked a coworker about me and if he should go and she was my friend so obviously said I was cool (thanks Cat!). He decided to flip a coin to decide if he should go or not. And the coin said he shouldn’t. Man, that would’ve been the end of the story! But if you know Eddie, you know he’s a gambling man..

He decided to go anyway. We had a great time at riot fest and took the party to beauty bar for punk emo night.

He was about to kiss me under the disco lights and then I said “wait but we work together!” And he said, “but we don’t WORK together” (referencing that we worked at different clinics). That was clearly a logical take- so needless to say we had our first kiss that night and never stopped hanging out!

Within a few months we had a dog together. We made it through grad school and further education, a pandemic, living with in-laws, and many more challenges- and we’ve never looked back!
