Our Wedding

Our Story

In the year 2019, Alyzia was hired at Brocton Central as a new pre-k teacher. Blake moved to Brocton to meet the pastor of a small local church, who was his previously unknown cousin and also Alyzia's new landlord. Living just up the road from one another, we had no idea what life had in store. In the new year we hit 2020 and within months the world shut down. Blake, being an essential worker, continued life as normal. Alyzia, however, had to transition to doing most everything online. Blake grew close with his cousin and family. Alyzia grew lonely being much more isolated with teaching online and only seeing a select few friends and family. Being in the midst of a pandemic, Alyzia was looking for a safe opportunity to socialize outside of work. Our landlords (Blake's cousin) kept posting on Facebook inviting members of the community to attend services with them. Alyzia finally decided to try it out. Blake had already been a member of the church and was sitting in one of the back row pews when Alyzia walked in.

The Beginning

After a few months attending the same church, Blake decided to make a move and invite Alyzia to a Valentine's day dinner the church was putting on to benefit a local family. To add a layer of mystery to the whole affair, Blake used a friend from church to act as a go between so he could pose as Alyzia's secret admirer. Many messages went back and forth, deciding where to meet, what to wear. The tickets were purchased and, finally, the evening of the dinner arrived.

The Set Up

The night of the dinner, our close friend, the go -between, messaged Alyzia with the most unfortunate news. The secret admirer was sick. Too sick to come to the dinner. However, the food was purchased and it made no sense to waste the money if neither of us went. Alyzia did attend the dinner and friends from the church were there with their families as well. The following Tuesday evening, at a gathering of church families, Blake introduced himself in person to Alyzia. It was a relief to meet the man behind the messages! We chatted the night away - much to the happiness of most everyone in the church. (They were much more aware of Blake's pursuits than Alyzia was...) The gathering ended but the night was still young, we decided to take an evening stroll. We ended up down at lake Erie, not quite in time to catch the sunset. It was a beautiful night, and the start of a beautiful relationship.

We Met

Blake and Alyzia began seeing each other on a regular basis- for breakfast some mornings, at church - of course, for dinner or movies. Sometimes it was a quiet night in, others were evenings out. Blake learned to line dance, Alyzia became a first grade teacher. We both got Covid: more than once. Blake is a much more obedient sick person than Alyzia is! We adopted two cats: Shelby in November of 2023 and then Maximus in January of 2024. Blake has been slowly teaching Alyzia to golf, with the help of some friends. We are looking forward to all of the adventures life has to offer us. Thanks to all the friends and family who have followed us along this journey so far and all of those who will do so in the years to come.
