The closest major airport is in Calgary, Alberta (YYC). From the airport there is a shuttle to Fernie that can be arranged through Tunnel 49 or you can rent a car. The drive from Calgary to Fernie takes about 3 hours and is stunning as it takes you through the foot hills of the Rockies and by some interesting historical sites. You can also fly into Cranbrook (Canadian Rockies International Airport&nbsp;(YXC)). From here it is possible to take a bus to Fernie or you can rent a car and it is a 1 hour drive.

Flying In

Island Lake Lodge is accessible by gravel road. It is a fairly rugged road, so please drive appropriately and avoid very low clearance cars.

Driving

The venue has rooms available to book as part of a package which includes two nights (Friday and Saturday) and meals (dinner on Friday, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and brunch on Sunday). The package is $1,100 to $1,400 depending on the room (at double occupancy). If you have any questions or are interested in sharing a room, reach out to us at abrissenden@hotmail.ca. If you would like to stay at the venue, please indicate this when you RSVP, and we will follow-up with details on how to book. The venue requires that we provide a list of guests that are staying before they allow people to book rooms, so please hold off booking until you have heard from us. The venue has many great hiking and biking trails on the property as well as a hot tub and multiple saunas.

There are many different hotels in Fernie, ranging from hostels to resorts and we will have a shuttle available to help folks get back to Fernie safely. Travel

Fernie is full of fun activities! For those looking to be active and break a sweat, there are endless mountain biking and hiking trails, whitewater paddling, and golfing. For those looking to relax and unwind, downtown Fernie is gorgeous and has a stretch of cute shops and cafes. You can rent canoes at Island Lake Lodge and SUPs and kayaks in town. At Island Lake Lodge there is a hot tub and multiple saunas with stunning views of the mountains.

There is a golf course in Fernie, and many within an easy drive from the town. The course in Fernie rents clubs!

Golfing

For those looking to be active and break a sweat, there are endless&nbsp;mountain biking&nbsp;trails. Some leave right from Island Lake Lodge, while others would require a car to drive to the trailhead. There are also lots of gravel trails for a less adrenaline inducing bike ride. Bike rentals are available in town. Don't forget to carry bear spray, and consider going in groups. Wildlife is very much present and you can surprise them when moving fast around blind turns, give a holler to let them know you are coming. We can also connect you with some locals if you want to ride with someone who knows the area!

Mountain Biking

The Elk River and the Bull River are both nearby and offer&nbsp;paddling&nbsp;from Class 2 to Class 5. The Lower Elk is a lovely afternoon run (Class 2/3 but portaging is very difficult). There are many other rivers in easy driving distance. We will bring paddling gear with us and can help outfit folks so they don't have to travel with too many things!

Whitewater Paddling

There are&nbsp;hiking&nbsp;trails of every type! At Island Lake Lodge there is an easy trail that wraps around the lake. There are more moderate trails like Fairy Creek that takes you to a beautiful waterfall. There are lots of more challenging hikes! Right at Island Lake Lodge you can access Golidlocks Loop, Spineback Trail, and Mount Baldy all of which make for stunning half day hikes, though they are not for the faint of heart! Check out apps like AllTrails and similar for detailed routes. Don't forget to carry bear spray, wild life is very much present, we are visitors in their home, be respectful and travel in groups. We will bring some spare bear spray with us for folks coming from out of town, as you cannot fly with bear spray.
