Derrick and Amanda’s story began on Saturday, February 4th, 2017, at Union Pizzeria. Derrick, along with his friends Tim and Cole, happened to be Amanda’s very first table of the day. Initially, Amanda wasn’t sure what to make of Derrick’s quiet demeanor, he hardly spoke a word to her. Despite his silence, she managed to convince him to order the nachos, a seemingly small victory that would hold greater significance as their story unfolded.

As the day progressed, fate seemed to intervene. Close family friends of Amanda, Tara and Mike Wright, appeared at the restaurant. In a twist of coincidence, Tara also worked with Derrick, Tim, and Cole. The situation became even more lively when Amanda’s parents and sister arrived, introducing themselves to Derrick’s table and adding to the cheerful chaos of the day.

Amanda had initially planned to leave work early that day to head to Kansas City, but destiny had other plans. Derrick’s table ended up being her last of the shift, and the group somehow persuaded her to stay for a drink. That drink turned into an impromptu night filled with adventure; a trip to the Party Time Dance in Bennington, a visit to the casino, babysitting Cole as he struggled to unlock his door, and eventually dropping Derrick off at home.

It was during that drop-off that Derrick delivered a line that would change everything: “You coming up? Yeah, you’re coming up.” And with that, the connection between them began to solidify.

The following morning, they found themselves watching Harry Potter together, and by Friday, February 10th, 2017, they were officially a couple. From that moment, their relationship blossomed.

Over the years, Derrick and Amanda have shared countless milestones that have shaped their journey together. They’ve celebrated the births of Amanda’s nieces, Adalynn and Palmer, and her nephew, Waylan, while cherishing the growth of Derrick’s niece and nephew, Bryson and Brystol. Amanda has been a constant source of support for Derrick throughout his six years of sobriety, while Derrick has stood by her side as she earned her master’s degree and navigated the challenges of teaching preschool. Derrick’s dedication extends beyond their relationship, he has worked tirelessly on every room in their home, turning it into a space that reflects their shared style, love, and personality. Together, they’ve enjoyed countless date nights filled with concerts, comedy shows, exploring new restaurants in Omaha, and cheering on the Florida Gators at College World Series games.

Together, they’ve explored new destinations, visiting Las Vegas, Kansas City (too many times to count), Florida, Colorado, Branson, St. Louis, Michigan, Des Moines, Minnesota, and Arizona; the place where Derrick proposed. With so many adventures behind them, they eagerly anticipate the ones yet to come.

Their journey has also brought its share of heartache. They’ve mourned the loss of their beloved dog Bowzer, as well as cherished family members Grandma Donna, Grandma Peg, and Uncle Dean. Yet, through every challenge and triumph, their bond has grown stronger.

Now, Derrick and Amanda are excitedly preparing for their next great adventure: becoming husband and wife on Friday, October 10th, 2025.
