The weekend of May 20th, Tommy, myself, Mrs. Blum and Sylvia (Tommy's niece) flew out to New York City. We were there to visit with "The Blums" and celebrate Tommy's 2nd cousins first communion. Neither Tommy or I had ever been to NYC so we were very excited. After the First Communion festivities, Tommy and I decided to venture on our own into the big apple. Our first stop was St. Patrick's Cathedral which was breathtakingly beautiful. We then made our way to Times Square, the NBC studios, Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center.
The second cup of coffee for the day had started to loose its effect on us so we went back to the hotel for a quick rest and water break. Now, my cousin Zach Dugan lives in NY and we had planned to meet with him for a bit before dinner that night. I was perfectly content with staying at the hotel for a few more hours before visiting with my cousin and going to dinner. Tommy had other things in mind. (insert rolling eyes, pleading with him to just relax for a bit, and the whiny child "ughhhh"). He persisted, I gave in and we went for a walk around Central Park for the second time.
This time the walk was a bit rainier than the previous day. I was in a tank top so being the gentleman that he is, he lent me his jacket which was used as an umbrella. We walked around for a bit enjoying the scenery (Tommy says he wanted to take me onto one of the bridges in the park but that every one we passed was too crowded). So we came across one of the rock cliffs in the park and Tommy suggested we go up top to take a picture with the city in the background. Thankfully there were some other people there willing to take the picture in the drizzling rain. After the picture I was ready to leave, to visit with my cousin, but Tommy kept looking around "admiring the view" so I was patient and let him enjoy his moment. Then he joined me under my jacket umbrella, gave me a few kisses, some compliments and said to me, "This weekend has been so amazing, but..." Then he took a step back, pulled the ring out of his pocket and went down on one knee saying, "Will you marry me?"
I was in complete shock. At one point my brain told me to stop saying "Are you serious?!" and tell him "YES!" Which is exactly what I did. The proposal was a COMPLETE surprise, I had no idea that Tommy had a ring yet. It was absolutely perfect and I wouldn't have changed a thing.
