Our Wedding

We first met at a mutual friend’s birthday party at a beautiful (and slightly over-the-top) winery in Healdsburg. What caught Amanda’s attention wasn’t the wine or the scenery, but Shawn’s sense of humor and easygoing kindness. Over lunch, he asked if Amanda had any wine memberships. Her reply? “My only wine membership is to Trader Joe’s.” They both laughed—and have been laughing together ever since. To this day, their love of Trader Joe’s runs strong (if only the wedding could be catered by it!).

How We Met                    

Our first date was set for wine and sushi in San Francisco’s West Portal neighborhood. Shawn came over from Berkeley, with flowers in hand… and showed up a little early. Amanda, not quite ready, had a surprised reaction and promptly ran away. After a quick hand-off of the flowers, they regrouped 45 minutes later at the wine bar—perfectly imperfect, and a story they still laugh about.

Our First Date

Shawn spent a month distracted, jittery, and constantly patting his pocket to make sure the ring was still there. He’d picked the Berkeley Botanical Gardens for the big moment—the site of their third date, their first fancy picnic, and the first time he looked at Amanda and thought, “I want this forever.” The day before the proposal, he was so nervous he left the stove on at Amanda’s place. (Nothing burned, except maybe his credibility.) The next day, the sun was out, the flowers were blooming, and Shawn wandered the gardens like a lost intern. Really, he was just stalling while secretly searching for the perfect, private spot to get down on one knee. He found it. He knelt. He poured his heart out.Amanda said "um, yeah, I guess so." And just like that, they were engaged—with love, laughter, and excitement for their future together.

The Tampa International Airport (TPA) is conveniently located 35 minutes from our wedding venue and 20 minutes from downtown Tampa. Hotel options are endless in the Tampa Bay Area. We want our guest to stay where they are most comfortable based on their budget and trip desires beyond our special day. We have a small room block at The Hyatt House located at 325 N Florida Ave, Tampa, FL 33602. Instead of a traditional rehearsal dinner the night before our nuptials, we’d love for you to join us for an adventure on the water! Sunday Lunch 

What do responsible newlyweds do the day after they tie the knot? Head straight to the casino, of course. After lunch on Sunday, Amanda will be living her best life at the slot machines while Shawn—ever the supportive husband—will be bringing his non-gambler good luck vibes to the table. Sunday Lunch - Winning After Party! 

We’d be remiss not to mention one of Tampa Bay’s gems: the Salvador Dalí Museum. If this is your first (or only!) visit to the area, it’s well worth a stop. For anyone who appreciates Dalí’s art, this museum is a must-see. (not a wedding party activity, just a nice thing to see in Tampa)

Tampa’s historic Latin quarter: home of Cuban sandwiches, hand-rolled cigars, and nightlife that ranges from charming to “did that rooster really just cross the street?” (Yes. Yes, it did.)This area is also includes a vibrant Ga-Ybor with PRIDE-filled fun and nightlife. P.S. We hear one of our guest is planning a Ga-Ybor after party activity after our wedding.(Not an official wedding activity - Enquire with Amanda or Shawn if you want to join. All are welcome!)

Ybor City 

Just a short drive away, this award-winning beach offers white sand, turquoise water, and sunsets that will make you want to stay forever. Ideal for guests looking for a classic Florida experience.(not an official wedding activity - worth seeing if this is your first and last time in Tampa)

Clearwater Beach 

A scenic 2.6-mile walkway along the Hillsborough River, perfect for strolling, people-watching, and hopping between restaurants and bars. Great for guests who want a relaxed but lively vibe.
