Our Story

How We Met

Picture of How We Met

Jared’s POV: I like to go swing dancing near my house in La Crosse on Friday evenings. My roommates sister had a girl she wanted to set me up with and was going to bring her to swing dancing to meet me. I was uninterested with having a blind date and was not going to go that night until a couple from my church called and said they were going. Last second, my roommate and I decided to go. I am sure glad I did! Amanda was my dance partner most of the night and we talked about our faith, favorite books, love for fitness, and more. We got to know each other as we shared our first dance. I found her desire to grow and her intelligence very attractive. In fact, I was a bit intimidated by it. I wanted to get to know her more and after the dance thought of her most of the evening. I knew I had to find a way to go on a true first date with her.

Amanda’s POV: My good friend Eve had previously told me about Jared and asked if she could said me up with him, I said “sure”. I went swing dancing with Eve and had no idea that I was going to meet Jared that night, I thought I was going to meet him the next day. At first I was confused if this was the guy that Eve was telling me about because I couldn’t remember his name. It was my first time swing dancing. Jared and I ended up dancing most of the night and getting to know each other. We talked about Jesus, fitness, our family’s, and other interested. My initial thoughts were “he seems very kind, but I wonder if that is genuine or an act”, I was both skeptical and intrigued. I was also impressed and attracted by his dance moves! By the end of the night I was hoping to spend more time with him and get to know him more!

How Jared Asked for Amanda’s Phone Number

It was the third time we had hung out as a group and we were at high rollers. My roommate Bob was there and knew I was going to ask for Amanda’s number. We skated around as a group but every so often I would skate just Amanda and I. There never was a good moment to ask (there were lots of good moments to ask). At the end of the night as everyone was leaving, Bob and I invited everyone back to our place like we usually did. Amanda said, “I don’t know where you guys live”. This was the big moment. I reached for my phone and started stretching out my hand so she could put her number in my phone. It was to easy. Just before I could say “here, put your number in my phone” my roommate Bob blurted out “oh, you can just put your number in my phone” and jumped in front of me. I sheepishly put my hand back in my pocket. Good thing she didn’t see (she did notice). We went back to my house and again there wasn’t a good moment to ask (I could have asked whenever). Amanda left and it was just me, Bob, and his brother left. Bob immediately said, “Dude, why didn’t you get her number??”. I said, “you stole it!”. Bob, “oh, ops”. We then made the perfect plan. Put everyone in a group chat, then the only number I didn’t have would be hers so I could text her and ask her on a first date. It was very courageous. It also worked ;)
