It all started in 2021, at a Wendy's in Westfield, Indiana. I had just started working as a shift manager there, trying to make the most of my shifts, when fate decided to throw a little surprise my way. His name was Gabriel, and I had no idea at the time how much my life was about to change.
It was a typical busy night, the kind where we had to juggle orders and manage the chaos of customers. I was working at the window when I first noticed him, or he noticed me.
It all started with a compliment to my SpongeBob face mask, and that was it—our first real connection. It wasn't a big dramatic moment or anything, just a simple compliment. But there was something warm and effortless about it. The kind of thing you only feel with someone you’re meant to meet.
From that night forward, we worked shift after shift together. Late nights closing the restaurant, pulling together to finish cleaning up the mess of the day. Even though those shifts were long and tiring, they didn't feel quite as hard when Gabriel was around. We started talking more and more—about everything, from our favorite music to what we were doing outside of work. Soon, we realized we shared so much in common. The late-night shifts turned into hours of laughter, inside jokes, and unexpected friendship.
One of the things that clicked right away was our love of music. Gabriel was into all kinds of bands, and so was I. We’d swap playlists while we worked and texted each other about the latest concerts we had to go to, or our favorite bands old performances. And when we finally went to our first concert together, it felt like the beginning of something incredible. The music, the crowd, the energy—it was electric, and the chemistry between us? Even more so.
Then there was the gaming. Late-night sessions would become our routine, playing anything from co-op games to competitive matches, just losing track of time and being ourselves. It was during these gaming marathons from our own Minecraft realm, to endless competetive matches that I realized how much I had come to look forward to our time together. Gabriel wasn’t just a coworker anymore. He was my best friend, and soon, he became so much more.
But it wasn’t just the music and gaming that brought us closer. We also shared a love for the outdoors. We’d hike the trails, specifically Turkey Run, and take in the beauty of nature together. There was something about being in the quiet of the forest, or standing on top of a hill and feeling the wind on our faces, that made everything else seem small. We didn’t need anything but each other and the beauty around us.
We also loved spending time with our friends, especially at Kings Island. It became a tradition, every summer, to spend the day there. Whether it was racing each other on roller coasters or just goofing off while eating, those moments at the amusement park became some of the most cherished memories we shared. And somewhere along the way, I knew that Gabriel was the one I wanted to keep making those memories with.
Fast forward to December 2024, at Kings Island again. The park was beautifully decorated for the holidays, with sparkling lights and the faint sound of Christmas carols in the background. Gabriel and I had spent the day riding the coasters, playing games, and laughing with our friends. As the evening grew colder, Gabriel suggested we take a walk through the park to see the lights one last time before heading home.
We wandered through the holiday displays, taking in the twinkling lights and the festive cheer, when he stopped in front of a beautifully lit carriage. I had actually dropped his coffee mug right before he proposed, and made my heart skip a beat as I looked up at him.
From that first night at Wendy's, to our late-night gaming sessions, to all the concerts, hikes, and adventures we've shared.
And that’s when it happened. Gabriel dropped to one knee, pulling out a ring that sparkled even more brightly than the lights around us.
I had no words big enough to express how happy I was. This was it. The moment where everything we’d shared—every laugh, every concert, every hike, every memory—had led us to this beautiful new chapter.
And so, just like that, Gabriel and I began the next part of our journey together. Our love, our laughter, and our endless adventures continued, now with a ring on my finger and a promise for forever. And I knew, without a doubt, that the best was yet to come.
