Lane and I met each other for the first time in January, 2020 while working together in the Army as medics in Washington state. I specifically remember the first conversation we shared while in the aid station at work being about football. I quickly realized that we are both passionate fans of rival NFL teams, but that did not turn me off of getting to know him more. Within a few weeks after texting regularly back and forth and talking at work, I devised a plan that led to our unofficial first date. I told Lane that I invited a few coworkers out to Applebees for dinner and some drinks and he should come too. Once he arrived, I told him that no one else was able to make it. Of course, Lane knew that I didn’t invite anyone else and later told me this, so I wasn’t as creative as I initially thought. After Applebees I took him out downtown to go dancing with me. Fun fact, we only ever did this twice so far as a couple as it’s not common for us. The weekend of February 7th, Lane planned our first weekend getaway for us in Leavensworth, Washington where we officially started dating and the rest has been history.
