Our Story

How Paul and Amanda Met

What a small world. Who would of thought, that 2 people from small towns in Louisiana, 30 minutes away from each other, would meet in Houston, TX and decide to spend the rest of their lives together.

Paul moved to Houston in 2011, when he was working for Louisiana Department of Revenue, as a tax auditor. A few years later, he would met Amanda and their lives would change for the better. In August of 2013, Amanda and Paul met at a mutual friends' place in Houston. They started a conversation over a TV program, "Cops", the episode took place in Louisiana. They soon discovered that Paul was born in Eunice, LA, on November 14, 1980 which is the same town Amanda resided in when she was a small girl. Amanda was born in Crowley, LA on March 30, 1983. Paul grew up in a small town, Oberlin, LA, which is located by the Calcasieu River. Amanda's dad took her to this river throughout her childhood. Amanda and Paul's relationship progressed from that day. As their relationship got serious, they discovered that both partners wanted to move back to Louisiana to start a family someday. They did not realize it would be soon after meeting. About a year after they started dating, Paul made a decision to make a career change. He soon received a job offer from a local accounting firm in Lafayette, LA.

In August 2014, they moved to Lafayette. Amanda got a job waiting tables at a local restaurant called Village Cafe, which is where is met her bridesmaids. Once they moved there and settled in they started building their life together. A year later, Paul and Amanda moved into a rent house right before their 2 year anniversary. Paul kept telling Amanda that he wanted to propose to her but he needed to save money. For their 2 year anniversary, Paul took Amanda to a restaurant called Pamplona. Amanda thought it was a regular anniversary dinner, nothing different than the year before. Paul told her that there was a special dessert being made for them but again Amanda did not think twice about dinner. That night he proposed to her. It was such a surprise and happy occasion.

On November of 2015, they had a quick ceremony at the Justice of the Peace but they wanted their family and friends to be with them for this special day. Which is why Amanda and Paul are having this ceremony on March 18,2017. They wish all their family and friends will be able to attend on this day so the start of their new life together can be filled with happy, joyous memories. Both, Amanda and Paul, hope to see you all on this day.

Wedding Traditions

Wedding Traditions and Cajun Wedding Traditions

Marriage and weddings are rites of passage, celebrations that are held to mark the time when a person reaches a new and important stage of life. Weddings are found in cultures all over the world. The way that this important life step is celebrated is different from culture to culture, from place to place, and even from person to person.

The happy couple has decided to incorporate some traditional wedding traditions and some Cajun Wedding Traditions into their wedding and reception. This will help the guests not familiar with the Cajun traditions fill more involved during this happy day. They welcome everyone to join in the festivities.

1. Before the band begins to play The Wedding March for everyone to dance, the dance floor is cleared. The bride and groom hold hands and walk slowly around the room while the band plays a special song just for this march. Then, the guests get a partner and join in the march until everyone is following the bride and groom. Amanda and Paul decided to use this tradition but instead The Wedding March will be played while they walk into the reception hall.

2. An old Cajun tradition is to pin money on the Bride throughout the reception to ensure the couple will have the finances to start their new life together.

3. Amanda will also be wearing:

Something old represents continuity - Amanda will be wearing her Great Great Grandma's, MaMa, wedding ring given to her by her Nani (Godmother)

Something new offers optimism for the future - Amanda will be receiving something new from her Mother

Something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness - Amanda will be wearing her Grandma's, Grandma Pat, earrings that she wore everyday

Something blue stands for purity, love and fidelity - Amanda will be receiving something blue from her Mother

Sixpence in your shoe is a wish for good fortune and prosperity - Amanda will be wearing a sixpence in her shoe given to her by her Mother

4. Amanda will be throwing the bouquet to all the single ladies at the wedding and Paul will be throwing the garter to all the single guys at the wedding to see who will be getting married next.

5. The groom's cake will be cut by the groom's godfather or parrain.

6. Paul will not see Amanda the day before the wedding. It is said to be bad luck for the couple.
