Amanda and Bernardo met during their first year of their Master’s Degree at the University of Houston in 2016. Amanda worked at the music library and Bernardo would find any excuse to spend his time there whenever he wasn’t in class so he could talk to her. Through taking classes together and performing in the operas at school, they got to know each other and eventually started dating. The rest is history!

During their time in Houston, Amanda and Bernardo loved to explore the amazing restaurants and hang out spots that Houston had to offer. They also were lucky to have performed together several times, both in and out of school (there are not many operas that make the soprano and baritone romantic partners, but they made do!) Some of their best memories over the years include getting their first apartment together, taking long road trips to visit family in Oklahoma and spending quality time during crazy world events like Hurricane Harvey and the COVID-19 pandemic. Having each other during these stressful times really brought them closer together! In 2020, they adopted Sadie, an adorable Husky mix, who stole their hearts and made them the happiest paw-rents around. Adopting Sadie made their family complete!

Bernardo proposed to Amanda during Mother’s Day weekend in 2021. Amanda’s mother and sister were visiting Tulsa to spend the weekend with Bernardo’s family. After arriving at Bernardo’s sister’s apartment, Bernardo asked Amanda if she wanted to go upstairs to see the view from the rooftop. Amanda expected everyone to come up with them, but it ended up being just the two of them. After talking about their future for a bit, Bernardo shakily got down on one knee and proposed. Amanda was totally shocked but of course, she said yes! After a sweet, private moment together, they went back downstairs and were showered with confetti, balloons and champagne!
