Our Wedding

It was St Patricks day weekend in New Orleans. Amanda was in town to celebrate her friends wedding and Joe was in town to march in the Irish Channel St Patricks day parade. Two different paths which ended up crossing on the night of March 16th 2012. Amanda had just finished a dinner on bourbon street with some friends, when she heard the wonderful sounds of the bagpipes. Intrigued they came upon a band playing outside of the Royal Sonesta. The band was the New York City Transit Band from the Bronx. After the band finished, her friend Zoe started a conversation with one of the members. Thats when Joe noticed Amanda. He knew at that moment she was special and had to talk to her. Building up the courage, Joe finally approached her. After introducing himself, they talked about being from NYC and being in NOLA for St. Patricks day. After a short conversation, the group decided to continue on to explore the wonderful sites of the French Quarter. Before leaving Joe said to Amanda, "I'll see you tomorrow at the parade" and Amanda answered with a similar response. Based on past parades, Joe figured he would never see her again....Joe's St Paddys DayOn St Patricks day, the band departed for the Irish Channel parade. Joe was wondering if he would see Amanda again. It was a terribly hot and humid day in NOLA. A far cry from the cold and snow that usually accompanies Paddy's day in the North. Due to the conditions, the parade became a death march, but Joe didn't give up hope. He kept looking for the good looking girl he met last night. Finally as the parade started to come to a close, the band came to a stop at a light and Joe looked again for the girl. And to his amazement, she was standing on the curb looking for him. Joe jumped out of formation to talk to her again and take a quick picture (as seen above). They traded mobile numbers and the rest is history.....Amanda's St Paddys DayAmanda recalls chatting with a nice, tall, red-haired guy and although they said they would see each other the next day, she figured that would not be the case as parades tend to be too crazy with people. The next morning she and friends went to a house party prior to the parade. Amanda was feeling antsy to get to the parade as she did wish to see Joe from the night before. After watching the crazy parade with the street littered with people in green shirts, Amanda figured she'd missed Joe and and got her first green beer ever. Then towards the end Zoe spotted something and yelled to Amanda who also saw an American flag high above on a bagpipe done. The girls yelled and ran after him. They finally yelled "Joe!!" and he stopped and came over to chat. Zoe was quick to offer a photo opportunity (first ever - above). Joe and Amanda then exchanged phone numbers and since the lines were all blocked up Amanda called Joe to ensure he had her number. A 10 minute butt voicemail later, and the rest is history....

Take a walk on the repurposed old elevated rail line which has been turned into a park.

Take a walk across the famous Brooklyn Bridge. Take in the wonderful city skyline as you cross the bridge. On the Brooklyn side, stop and enjoy the beautiful parks under the bridge.

For those not wanting a 3 hour tour... (old folks will get the reference) , hope aboard the free staten island ferry. It departs from the battery every half hour and the total journey takes a brisk 60 minutes. Get a view of the city as it disappears and get to see the real statue of liberty. (ask Amanda!!)
