How We Met

Dean and Amanda are both involved with an organization called the Navigators. Each school, UCCS and UW, has the Navigators stationed there. The Navigators is a great organization that helps college students truly pursue their faith in the Lord and make Him your life instead just a part of it. One way they do this is to have conferences every semester to learn how to read the Bible, pray, and have fellowship at an accelerated rate for a weekend. This weekend is packed with worship, friends, and great messages from scholars of Christianity.

Last year, around the end of February, they decided to go to one of these conferences. These conferences have hundreds of Christian college students and they all congregate to have tons of fun with their brothers and sisters.

The next morning there was a class on apologetics that they both happened to sign up for.

Normally, Amanda sits on the end of a row so that she doesn't have to sit next to someone that she don't know. However, for some reason, she sat in the second chair. She was sitting there just hoping the class would start before someone sits next to her. She had her head down and was on her phone, indicating that she clearly did not want to have any conversations with someone. Suddenly, she felt someone sit right next to her. Why sit next to me? There are plenty of other seats around, and yet this person sits next to me? Geez!

Dean walks into the sanctuary and looks for a seat. Hey, there is a cute girl sitting by herself! I'll go introduce myself! "Hi! I'm Dean!"

Oh great, now he is talking to me!? "Hi," Amanda says as she looks up, then looks down again, "I'm Amanda." Hopefully, he will stop talking. I just want to learn about apologetics.

"What's your major?" he asks. Crap!

Little did Amanda know, Dean was actually easy to talk to. He was able to make the conversation go smoothly or they just really connected!

Throughout the entire class, they were goofing around, making jokes, and talking about serious topics all at the same time. Amanda really liked talking to this guy! As did Dean to her! The class came to an end, unfortunately, and they didn't see each other again. They didn't even exchange phone numbers.

We can see the question rising from your lips: well how did you guys get in a relationship? Oh let us tell you, it was all in God's hands!

STP

STP (summer training program) is another program promoted by the Navigators. Here, students will work for the YMCA in Granby, CO and also grow significantly in their faith. They train the students to grow in their Bible study, encourage half days (4-8 hours) with God, and evangelism (spreading the good news to anyone who wants to listen).

Amanda was hesitant to go to a camp like this. Every summer, she would go home to Jackson, WY to work as a waitress. Because of the amount of money she could make during just one summer, she had no need to work during the school year. She was able to provide for herself and continue with school. This camp would last 2/3 of the summer. So, going to this camp would sacrifice that money to pursue God. She prayed about it and she really felt that God wanted her to go to this camp. And she went!
