The apps really do work!
Andrew and Amanda met on Bumble, a dating app where only the girls can start the conversation. What was Amanda's winning pick-up line? "Hi, there."
Andrew thought she looked cute and fun and had a genuine smile, but what hooked him was her tag line, "just out here trying to be present" (or something like that).
Amanda thought he had bright eyes, adorable dimples and looked adventurous and fun, but what hooked her was he proclaimed to be a reader and nerd.
Their first date was on a Thursday at Rum Club, only one block away from the wedding venue. It is important to mention the first date was on a Thursday because Andrew has a standing happy hour with his friends on Thursdays. This particular night he left his friends early to meet with a girl that claimed to like hockey, eating half a Snickers bar on the way there.
When Amanda first walked up she saw a tall, handsome man, standing by a covered Tacoma talking on the phone with his mom (she found that part out later - can you say "swooned"?). Definitely the cutest nerd she'd ever seen. The conversation started off typical, the get-to-know-yous and trying to find things in common. It took a turn for the promising when Andrew became convinced the bar tender was wearing the same shirt his friend was wearing earlier that day. They tried to sneak a picture of the man to document the shirt. They got the picture, though, their giggling apparently was not quite subtle enough.
It was easy to laugh together, and things were going well, so they decided to go to a second location. On the way to the next spot, Andrew, who uncharacteristically had not had dinner, ran over to his truck to grab the second half of his Snickers bar. Amanda thought it was the most ridiculous and cutest thing, and to this day it still gives them a good chuckle.
They ended the night knowing they wanted to see each other again. Neither of them would say it was love at first sight, but it's always the slow burns that stay burning.
