Roberto and Amanda met during the most dreadful Nebraska child labor camps - detassling. IYKYK
We don't really remember how old we were, Amanda was 16 or 17, Roberto would have been 13 or 14. This was the first year that the Holdrege crew and the Lexington crew were working together and Roberto's first year of detasseling. Amanda had been doing it for about 5 years already and was tasked with training some of the newbies.
Roberto was assigned to Amanda's group. Amanda was all work and Roberto was all play. This theme would continue throughout their lives.
As Amanda taught and supervised the crew going down the cornfield, she would find tassels being thrown at her like darts. Eventually Roberto made it more obvious it was him doing it and kept up the different shenanigans. Amanda didn't think much of it at first, but eventually started participating in the fun and a friendship was formed.
Everyday, Amanda and her friends, and Roberto and his friends would join up, head down the cornfields together, have lunch together, ride on the bus together and overall had a ton of fun.
Over the years there were different times Amanda and her friends would drive to Lexington to hang out with Roberto and his friends. Fun always ensued - going to the fair, going to the lake, driving around the countryside blaring Lil Wayne, Eminem and all the popular music. It didn't matter what it was, it was always good clean fun.
Amanda liked that about Roberto. She liked that he knew exactly who he was -honored his boundaries and values - cared about school, respected his mom, and he could have fun without causing trouble.
Fast forward to 2021. Amanda had moved to Lincoln recently and decided to give Roberto a call. When Roberto answered the phone Amanda asked what he was doing his response was, "Just finished moving into my new house in Lincoln, my friends and family literally just left."
WHAT?!?!
It was Kismet!
We spent a lot of time together, eventually started dating and meeting each others family.
Some of our highlights over the years have been...
In 2022 we went to the UK where Roberto was in his best friend's wedding. We visited Paris and New York City with other friends. In 2023 and 2024 we went to Mexico with Roberto's family. In 2024 we took up the great sport of golf. In 2025 we went on a ski trip in Colorado with a group of friends. In January of 2026 Roberto went with Amanda on a work trip to Dallas & Austin, where we got to spend time with more of Roberto's family.
And in September 2026 we get to stand in front of all of you and say "I do" to each other.
We are so excited and can't hardly wait!
Your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift of all. If you wish to honor us with a gift, a contribution toward our honeymoon and future home projects would be deeply appreciated and can be sent to Roberto's Venmo: gomezr2011. For those who prefer, we have also created a small registry of items we love.
