We met on Cinco de Mayo in 2018 but our love story would not begin until later that July. I had attempted to “run into” Codey with the help of my cousin Jordan but timelines didn’t quite work until my cousin Jerrad came into town to visit. We spent all day in the pool at Grapevine 2499 and then going to Mi Dia From Scratch, where Codey having only known me a few hours paid for my dinner and things progressed from there.
If you ask me I will tell you our first date is the one Codey asked me on to dinner at Esparza’s but if you ask him it was the Camp Gladiator workout I invited him to earlier that week. So the jury is out on who asked who on the “first date”.
Many miles were driven over the course of our first few months from all of the different clinical rotation sites I was on in the Metroplex to the drive up to Illinois for Codey’s mom Tracey’s transplant. We got the call she had a match late that afternoon and instantly we jumped into action packing his bags and Kizzy’s for the 4-6weeks he would be helping her recover. I simply did not feel right sending him to drive 15 hours after having worked all day and being concerned for his safety making it there without falling asleep at the wheel. He never asked but he did not need to. So I packed a weekend bag and got in the car.
The first time meeting his mom and family was not the way either of us intended but we spent the weekend helping in whatever ways we could. Monday morning Codey took me to the airport and I knew I couldn’t leave him without saying what my heart already knew. In the Moline airport we said “I love you” for the first time.
The first year of our relationship was spent with many weeks apart but ended with me moving in with Codey and respectively what we call the Kitchen Crew (Jordan and Tori). Our relationship grew beautifully and you would find us cooking, dancing, singing together and out attending events in DFW.
The pandemic hit and little did we know that pool that we first got to know each other in would end up being our saving grace that year. It produced amazing friendships and gave us an outlet we both needed in a time we weren’t allowed to leave a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment. Many trials arose during this time and we made it through together and stronger.
During the pandemic we also grew our family with Riley and he brought more joy, love, and playfulness into our lives. We often spent our nights and weekends at the dog park or walking our babies around 2499. Vacations grew to include our puppy babies and we loved the time together all the more.
Our love story continues to grow with our experiences, from our own career and professional goals, with the support of our family and friends, our mutual shared and our own unique passions from water volleyball, football(Bear Down and Bang Bang Niner Gang), traveling, Disney, Star Wars to our newest addiction Lego.
Pray for our bank accounts!
On our 5 year anniversary Codey asked me to be patient and insisted all our celebrations would be happening the following weekend on July 29th. I had no idea what he had planned I was told to simply pack an overnight bag with a casual outfit and an elegant outfit. We drove into Dallas and checked in at the Omni which was stunning and the room had an amazing view of a city we both love. He then took me to get my nails done….at this point I knew something was happening. From the salon we got changed and headed to a new location 30min away from the hotel with champagne in hand and we arrived at Lake Grapevine back to where our love began and blossomed. Codey proposed and had a photographer there to capture it all. It was a beautiful sunset and to have the proposal where things all began for us was truly an amazing way to come full circle.
Now we invite you all to Cancun to witness the continuation of our journey as we commit to a life and future CONTIGO!
