Amanda's best friend Taylor, had reached out to her and suggested that her and Jaquan should go on a date sometime. Taylor had claimed that the two would really hit it off. Amanda initially was hesitant as she still was living in Lansing at the time with her sister, Katelyn.

While back in Sterling Heights, Jaquan's friend Andrew was also telling him the same story. Jaquan was hesitant at first, but pushed that hesitation aside and messaged Amanda on Facebook.

The two hit it off perfectly over messenger and had agreed to go on a date when Amanda came home for Christmas break. On December 8, 2019, the two went on a date to Buffalo Wild Wings. Amanda shared funny stories about her job as a preschool teacher, such as the time a preschooler ate a macaroni noodle off of her tennis shoe (Jaquan's favorite story of all time). Jaquan noticed Amanda was wearing the same shoes from the story (which still had the noodle imprint on it) and he never let her live it down.

It didn't take long after the date for Jaquan to ask Amanda to be his girlfriend (literally only 20 minutes after the date). And from then on the two have been inseparable.
