You can fly to the island with various airlines or you can transfer through Athens airport. You can also take a bus (from Kifisou) and a ferry boat (from Kilini). For inexperienced travelers, it is recommended to fly to the island, but be aware of luggage and carry-on weight restrictions as the airlines have different requirements and are strict.
Do I need a VISA?
As of now, the answer is NO for all of European travel if coming from USA. See the travel section for more information.
Do I need Euro currency?
You should come with some Euro. Check with your credit card company because we find that we get the best exchange rate by using certain credit cards. You may exchange Euros once in Greece at banks, but banks aren’t easily accessible. There are many ATMs which will charge fees. Please check with your financial institutions to determine what is best for you.
Will my medical insurance work there?
Check with your insurance provider. Most will have some coverage, however, medical costs are not typically expensive.
What attire is proper for that time of year?
Comfortable, breathable cotton or linen clothing is best. You may need a light jacket in the evenings or on a boat. Bring comfortable shoes that you can walk in. I wouldn’t recommending packing too many pants. Shorts will be the best option. There are lots of uneven and angled streets and sidewalks. This is not a time to be wearing stilettos. Bring a swimsuit and water shoes for some of those rocky beaches! You can purchase the shoes anywhere if you want to decide later.
