Our Story

How we met (Josh's version)

It was Junior year and Electrical Engineering was getting pretty tough. Ben and I had decided to work together at a study hall. Ben had also invited Amber. Before this point, I had met almost all of the Sophomores except for Amber as she was usually more of the quiet and secluded types. Amber and I started to talk and immediately I knew that I wanted to spend a lot more time with her. The more I got to talk with her, the more I realized how amazingly strong, brilliant, and God fearing she was. She is all and more than what I could have ever asked for. I cannot thank God enough for answering my prayers. I cannot wait to spend the rest of forever with her. Thank you, Lord.

How we met (Amber's version)

During freshman/sophomore year I would often see Josh on his skateboard (and later on Onewheel) around campus at Oklahoma Christian. He always had his helmet on. I knew that he was an engineering major in the grade above me because sometimes he would swing by a class I was in just to say hi to a professor. I remember thinking that it was kind of weird that everyone knew Josh but we had never been officially introduced. But that was a brief, passing thought and I didn't think much about that again. After freshmen year passed, we still had never been introduced to each other.

As sophomore year started, I upped my study game as the class difficulty increased. I would often go to the engineering building to do homework and study. During sophomore year, I had an ethics class that included all the engineering majors from all grades. One Friday after this specific class, Ben King invited me to study with him and a group of friends later that night. I was going to do homework either way, so I decided to go. Josh ended up being at the study session because he is one of Ben's really good friends. Josh introduced himself to me and I remember talking about our common love for salmon and him helping me with homework I was working on. I also remember him jamming out to his music with his headphones on. I can't remember much else about our first meeting but I remember our conversation was brief but I was glad we finally were officially introduced.

After that point, almost any time Josh saw me around campus he would come up to me and say hi and chat. Even if I was in a huge group of girls, Josh would still come say hi to me which I thought was weird in a good way. We started to work on homework together and hang out. During the beginning of getting to know Josh, having a romantic relationship with him wasn't on my mind. However, I really enjoyed growing our friendship because Josh was always so cheerful and he was so smart. My friends started noticing how Josh would always come up to say hi to me and claimed that he liked me. I would respond with, "No, he's just really friendly." As time went on I started to think about what it would be like to date Josh and grew in my feelings for him and daydreamed about what it would be like to date him. I really enjoyed his company and had never met anyone like him before. He was so kind, caring, and gentle but at the same time so brave, bold, and strong. After a certain point, I knew that Josh might be interested in me, but right when it seemed like we might officially start dating, it was time to go back home for Christmas break. Josh went to Michigan and I went to Texas. I remember being really sad because I assumed that the time and distance would dissolve what relationship we did have. But during that month and a half break, we called each other almost everyday and grew even closer to each other.

Shortly after we got back from Christmas break, Josh asked me to be his girlfriend. I was SO happy! Even that early, we were both really committed to each other and knew our relationship would last a very long time. We dated around a year and half before Josh proposed. I'm so grateful that God allowed our paths to cross and I absolutely can't wait to spend the rest of my life loving and serving Josh!
