Austin and Amber’s love story started in jail… but not how you think! They were both correctional officers on the midnight shift in Anne Arundel County. Austin was a seasoned veteran and Amber was a rookie Officer. Austin injured himself on the job and was on a restricted duty status when he saw Amber working the female pod via the jail’s camera system. He called her post and asked what it was exactly she was doing. She replied she was scrubbing down a mattress with sanitary wipes so the next inmate had a clean mattress. Austin advised her that it was 3 a.m. but that didn’t stop Amber’s caring heart from making sure that jail mattress was clean. Over the next few weeks he called her more and more until eventually she decided to give in and let him take her out. He swept her off her feet and after about 6 months, Austin finally got to meet Amber’s daughter Penelope. She too fell in love with “Big Austy” or “Mustache Boy” or whatever nickname she came up with depending on the day, and finally gave the approval for Mama to have Austin as her boyfriend. As the years went on their love for each other grew. They moved into Amber’s townhouse together, went on family vacations, enjoyed lots of home cooked meals and movie nights. Then the decision finally came to add on to their little family. Amber found out she was pregnant after only a week or two of trying. Austin Amber and Penelope decided they needed some more space and a bigger playroom, so they decided to sell the townhouse and find a bigger home. They landed in Saint Leonard, MD in June and two months later, August 25th, they welcomed Finnleigh James to the family. Penelope was ecstatic, and has been the best big sister in the world since she first held Finn in the hospital room. Austin and Amber watched as Penelope and Finnleigh grew together and bonded, and that’s when they both knew for sure they never wanted to spend their lives apart. Amber picked her ring style and Austin worked overtime to save money. Once the ring arrived, Austin asked Amber to marry him on May 25th at one of his softball tournaments in Salisbury, MD. Surrounded by family and friends Amber of course said, “YES!” bringing joyful tears to everyone’s eyes. And that’s the story of how they got to this day!
