Amber’s Point of View:
For our first date, Alex invited me to get coffee after work at Muggswigs in Canton, OH. He was running late from work and I started to worry that he was standing me up. I saw him walking up and he looked so handsome and nervous. When he came into the coffee shop, I was sitting at a booth near the door. I waved at him and he went in for a hug while I went in for a handshake. We laughed off the awkwardness and he ordered us both coffee like a gentleman. Alex made fantastic coffee recommendations (which now comes by no surprise) and he drank at least 2 -LARGE- cups of coffee within the 4 hours we spent at the coffee shop. From that date, I knew Alex would become someone I could talk to about anything. He was so kind and thoughtful and we have been inseparable since then. I’m truly becoming the most lucky woman in the world to be marrying this kind-hearted and caring man, my best friend.
Alex’s Point of View:
The whole day leading up to our first date, I had butterflies. All I could think about was the “what-ifs.” And who would’ve guessed me showing up 15 minutes late? I never do that. But I did, and I immediately saw this beautiful woman staring through the window of my all-time favorite coffee shop, looking for me to show up. And the gravity of it all hit me in the face when she smiled and waved.
The best decision I’ve ever made in my life was opening that door. Sure I was awkward at first. Sure I went in for the hug when she went for a hand shake. Sure I suggested a drink that (unknown to me at the time) she was allergic to. But it turned out to be the the most amazing date I could’ve ever hoped for. We talked for hours and hours about literally anything and everything. The immediate mutual interest was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It was just so easy to talk her, and there wasn’t a single dull moment.
I found myself so profoundly interested in this complex, intelligent, and amazing woman, I was sad at the thought of the date ending and simultaneously nervous that she wouldn’t be interested in a second. But I immediately knew I wanted to see her again. And again and again. I never really believed in “when you know you know,” but that changed when I met her. Thank God she gave me a second date and for blessing me with a best friend to go through life with.
We went on a trip to Hawaii after Amber graduated from her AuD program. We decided to go to a beach to watch the sunset. Alex was stalling and on the phone while still in the parking lot. Unbeknownst to Amber, he was typing up a message asking someone would take a picture of us while he proposes. He screenshot the message and set it has his phone’s background.
After a couple of minutes, we went onto the beach and found a spot to sit. Sunset was just starting and Alex had a “neighbor” to take our picture. He walked up to her and told her to read the message and asked if she was okay with it. She said “Of course!”
Alex got down on one knee, presented the ring, and had a whole speech planned out, but all Alex was able to get out (sheepishly) was “Will you marry me”. That was all he needed to say; Amber said YES!
