Our Wedding

WEDDING DAY 

We are getting married twice before mid-day! Both the ceremonies will be routed in Hindu and Sikh religious rituals.There is never any pressure to participate, please do what you are comfortable with.There will be a breakfast between ceremonies and a lunch after both ceremonies are complete.During the lunch there will be an opportunity to bless and take a photo with the couple. Some family and friends will give a small monetary gift ($5-$10) as part of the blessing but there is no obligation to do so!Note: Due to religious reasons, no smoking is allowed on this propertyPlease refer to the Wedding Attire section for appropriate wear

RECEPTION

The Reception is a big party with dinner and an open bar! Please consider this while arranging your transportationIt will also be very loud; consider bringing headphones/earplugs if you are bringing young children

PRE-WEDDING EVENTS  (FOR BRIDE'S SIDE)

First MaiyaanCleansing ceremony done to purify the bride and the groom before their big day. Yellow turmeric paste is applied to their skin by friends/family to ward off evil spirits and give them their wedding glow!Second MaiyaanThere will be a second Maiyaan with only the Bride the next day

Mehndi CeremonyMehndi, also known as henna, is applied to the hand in ornate patterns. All wedding guest are welcome to have their henna done! If you get mehndi done, you will be sitting without use of your hand(s) for a period of time. It has to dry completely before you can wash your hand(s).

Jago/Sangeet NightJago means wake up and traditionally served as a way to invite the community to the wedding festivities. A lantern is lit and friends/family dance down the street with drums/singing songs to tell the village about the wedding. The Sangeet follows as a lively night of dancing/singing/dinner/drinks.

We kindly request a modest dress code for the 2 religious wedding ceremonies:Wear attire that covers your shoulders and is below the kneeYou will be seated on the ground for 45 min during the Sikh Ceremony, so please consider this when picking attireHead covering is required during Sikh Ceremony Head scarfs will be providedYou may choose to bring a scarf/fabric to wear over your head during the ceremonyThis does not need to be worn outside of the wedding building or during the Hindu CeremonyShoes must be taken off before entering the building in which the ceremonies are heldWe invite you to participate in wearing South Asian garb!Western wear is appropriate as well!
