Daniel and Amina met in January 2007 while working at the Department of Transportation. Although their careers lead them to different places, they always maintained a friendship. Eventually, that friendship lead them back to each other and a blossoming romance ensued.

For month's, Daniel had done his best to keep Amina in the dark about his intentions. Finally the perfect occasion presented itself. Daniel prearranged a dinner date at Amina's favorite restaurant Rays on the River. However, to keep her suspicions off of a possible proposal, he used the excuse of a belated Mother's Day dinner. As they sat and waited for their entrees to arrive, the topic of conversation wandered to possible proposals and what it would look like. The discussion shifted to where you would place photographers to capture the moment. At that moment, he pointed, pulled out the ring, and popped the question! Unknown to Amina, there was an actual photographer seated at a table close by and when Daniel popped the question, the photographer was there to capture a rare look of surprise on Amina's face. Daniel had done it! He had pulled off the best surprise of Amina's life, which wasn't easy given that she prides herself on not being surprised. After the initial shock and surprise, Amina of course said YES! The newly engaged coupled continued the celebration by attending another surprise party at Copeland's with friends. That makes two surprises in one day! Daniel has officially been crowned the King of Surprises in his new fiancé's eyes.
