It isn’t always easy for couples to pinpoint the moment when they became smitten with each other. For us, the moment is very clear.

About 36 hours after we met on the set of a Chrysler commercial in the greater Los Angeles area (where all love stories begin), we were among a throng of people listening intently as the director (shout out to Stacy Wall) explained the next shot. Amy leaned over to Mike and whispered, “My grandmother…she loves Las Vegas.” Mike, the consummate rule follower, felt a tad concerned to be talking while the director was talking, but not as concerned as he was into Amy. “Oh, she does?,” he said, charming as ever. Amy continued, “Yeah. She’s well into her seventies, but even at her age, she still performs every single night in a chorus line.” Mike nodded his head to pretend like he was paying attention to the meeting and then answered, “Wow, really?”

“Yes,” Amy said. “Some people say she can’t can’t, but she can can.” Mike walked right into that one. He didn’t see it coming. And as a result he let out a loud laugh that he tried to control, but couldn’t. Sort of like how Bill Murray did in this scene.

Anyway, that was the moment. Smitten. Hooked. No turning back now.

What followed was roughly a year and a few months of long distance dating — schlepping it up and down the west coast to see each other whenever they could.

Fast forward to driving Amy up to Portland — Little Phoenix and Mercutio coming along as part of the package deal.

Fast forward to the two of us buying a home together in Northeast Portland.

And fast forward to Mike proposing to Amy outside of the former location of Serious Juggling — the one-time premier retail establishment for juggling and unicycling and gatherer of many two-star Yelp reviews.

Now, we’re thrilled to welcome our wonderful friends and family to start the next chapter of our lives together in beautiful Johnson City, Texas.
